You know you want to be a truck driver when you see a flatbed driving down the road with loose tarps and think, "I would never take the chance of having Old School see me pull a load wrapped like that."
Nice!
You just never know when I'm watching you!
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
You know you have made it when you attempt to shift your personal truck without the clutch.
When you back your pickup truck pretending its a big rig
You know you want to be a truck driver when during a ride along you pull out your smart phone and record the driver while he manipulates his air powered seat.
I STILL WANT TO CONTROL THAT POWERRRRR!!!

Man I'm telling ya, I'm going to be so happy in that seat! =]
Did I mention the milk company converted the passenger seats into a bed looking seat? That way you could just unbuckle, lean over and take a nap with your pillow while waiting forever at delayed dairies? Have you ever seen that before?! LOL
.....when you spend every single evening for 7 straight weeks standing on the overpass above the Interstate , listening to Bob Seger and his wealth of traveling tunes, watching the trucks go by, wondering where they're going and what it's going to be like when you get your shot.
That was how I passed the time after truck driving school let out each day. It was a 7 week course, 350 total hours, plus about another 80 hours standing on that bridge. It was too far to commute so I was staying in a hotel. It was either watch TV or watch the trucks go by. I couldn't pull myself away from that bridge.

I passed under that same bridge about a hundred times over the years and it was always surreal. I've had many careers and a fun, exciting, challenging life that's been one long blessing. That being said, there isn't anything I've ever done that was more exciting than the prospect of living on the road and cruising this Great Land in an 80,000 pound rig. And even with all of that daydreaming, life on the road certainly didn't disappoint. Trucking is truly a grand adventure if you're the type that's up for that sort of thing.
I took my kids to a KC Royals baseball game a couple weeks ago and found myself watching the trucks go by on I-70 more than I was watching the game. Wondering where they were going, if any of them were people I have read on these forums, and wishing I was out there with them.
Next time you go through Kansas City on I-70 you will notice the Royals Stadium and the KC Chiefs are right off the interstate.

...when you put your car in park and make the Pssssshhhhhhh sound sounding like setting the park brake in a truck

I have driven 26ft box trucks for work a few times over the years and now at 58, after getting laid-off I finally made the move and now I just got CDL! Will be starting orientaion with Schneider Tankers in a couple weeks if all goes as planned! It's been a long time coming!

Hey Charles, I would love to hear how it goes with Schneider once you get started. They are one of the companies I have a pre-hire letter from and think I would like to consider once I get my CDL. Good luck and I hope all goes well!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
