Why Log Off-duty Time?

Why not just log time you aren't driving as sleeper berth time? Do you physically have to be in the sleeper berth?
Sleeper berth means your are physically in the sleeper berth. If you get out of the Truck and you are not working ie: home time, go into a truck stop, if your parked, for bathroom or whatever. If you get out of the Truck and are not performing work related duties it's logged as off-duty.
Off-duty means you are out of the Truck and you are relieved of as work related responsibilities for a period of time agreed apon by you and your company. Hometime and being out of the Truck during you 10 hour rest break would be good examples.
You have to remember at the end of your work day when you sign your logs, for paper logs or Approve your logs for Elogs , it becomes a legal binding federal document. If you are not accurate on your logs it can lead to jail time in the worst case scenario. Best case is a small fine.

The portion of the tractor behind the seats which acts as the "living space" for the driver. It generally contains a bed (or bunk beds), cabinets, lights, temperature control knobs, and 12 volt plugs for power.
