I was called by my Fleet Manager this morning, he let me know that I would be receiving a letter in the mail. It was because I had been awarded the "Driver of the Month" for the month of June for his fleet and it was signed by the Account Manager & the General Manager.

I asked him what I had done to get this, his reply was because I am never late, always do the things I am supposed to, etc. My response was, well I am just doing my job. He said he wished he had more folks "Just doing their job".

Just goes to show that some times you do get recognized for "doing your job".

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Geez... I'm lucky if they forget to ask me if I'm late and it's not because I'm late all the time. I'm never late, they just don't pay attention. This morning when I called in for a Lumber PO, he asked me if I was late. My response was "Why do you guys always ask if I'm Late? am I ever late?" he said I don't know.. Lol, that was the end of that conversation because then things got awkward. haha.. but I assure you they won't be asking me that damn question every day now.

Outstanding Ernie! It is nice to get recognition even if you're "just" doing your job.

Congratulations Ernie!

I completely agree with you, it seems you would at a minimum just be expected to be getting your job done, but these freight managers seem to be overjoyed when they find a competent driver who at least gives it his best shot day in and day out. Kind of makes you wonder if our wages wouldn't go up if we could get more people on board with a decent work ethic behind them. It's guys like yourself that are helping rise the tide - I salute you!

Congrats. Glad you got that call. I had that call from Dave a few times while I was there. Hard work pays off.

Thanks everyone.

Guy, as you said, was totally surprised when Dave told me.

OS, sure would be nice if I was given a little more, but the PPM (Pay Per Mile) was not the reason I wanted to get transferred over to this account. It was the consistent miles and home time were the reasons for this move. Although a little more pay sure would not be turned down.
