So, I read about prime as that is the school/employer I am looking at. But I have a small question.

I believe that I have read that if you do x-amount of miles then you will get x-amount of time off. (I think it was a month.)

First off, I'm not sure if this was actually on prime, or some one talking on behalf of prime so I might be barking up the wrong tree here.

But assuming I'm right, (and I think I am) what is the miles, and how long typically did it take you to get to that time off? (Sorry for the rambling have been up all night with my current job, so thoughts are kind of scattered at the moment)

For the most part the miles do not figure into your home time days off. As long as you are working and available for dispatch it generally goes you get 1 day off for every week you are out on the road. Some companies cap it at 5 days at home while others allow a week at home maximum. Now these are not vacation days. Most times they do not stack with other days from a different home time. They are just days off, like the weekend for someone at home, and you are not paid for these days off.

Now if you happen to stay long enough with one company you can start earning vacation days which are paid days off and do stack with other vacation days.

I'm at prime right now. You get 1 day at home for every 7 days on the road with a maximum of 4 days home at a time. Even if you stay out 7 weeks you can only be home 4 days, then those extra 3 days are banked. They typically want you to stay out 3 to 4 weeks at a time.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

At prime the only time after training that the mile come into play is vacation and pay per mile.

Vacation time is what I was referring to.
