I was supposed to get my truck today but when I got out to the lot to check it over I was sickened by the fact it was a dirty, old nasty smokers truck, 331,000 miles all scratched up and the lower fairing skirt had a major crack and was dangling on the passenger side. Bad Clutch, Broken APU , Bunk Light hanging by a wire, oil leak and power steering leak but the Lady said a wash and wax and then it will be good to go. Oh yeah a little spray of some Air Freshener is all it needs and then poof all that old Smoke Smell will be gone...I don't think so. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day and I can get my truck
Hope I don't have to do a lease to get a Nice Truck....LOL

Screw that... refuse the truck or come up with a reason not to take it. If you're a non smoker tell them smoke gives you allergies or asthma and also express your concern about it possible breaking down on the road. Personally they would never be able to get me into a truck in that poor of a condition and its not because I'm demanding or a Diva. That is your home and you will be in that truck ALOT, so being comfortable is everything.
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
Wow! That sounds awful, but you know what? Why not fix it up and make it just the way you want? I'm new so Iono if this would be worth the hassle or not but I would probably try cleaning the tar out of it and having the company mechanic fix everything else. Then name it :3

Sounds like my first truck... No, wait... Mine had over 600,000 miles on it. I put it in the shop for repairs, cleaned it, then cleaned it, then cleaned it then drove it for 11 months. I wasn't happy, but I like a paycheck. I don't think they would have liked me turning it down... Being that I was a rookie and all. Sometimes we just have to accept what we have and roll with it. Things usually work out better down the road.

My first truck had 650,000 miles on it. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke, funky stank truck driver who never bathed and wet dog all masked with pinsol:/ It was ducktaped up and broke down all the time but ya know what. I cleaned it from top to bottom and made the best of it. You are a rookie. New trucks arent just handed out until you prove that you're not going to tear things up.
I could deal with the duck tape and BO, and Queen (the short one in the picture) thinks wet dogs smell great, but ewwww, please not a smoker truck!
Sounds like home to me.
Lol, sounds like some HMMWVs I've been stuck with before. Mine had four bald tires with belts showing through, and missing armor in some places. No steering fluid and a rattle that I couldn't figure out. Commander was all "you guys have a mission tomorrow so get those trucks fixed". Good times. It's a miracle those trucks even ran at all, much less that I survived that tour.
I have no idea what can get nasty cigarette smell out of upholstery, aside from eating lots of chili and letting nature take it from there.
Operating While Intoxicated
If the truck needs maintenance, make sure those problems are corrected before going OTR with it. You get pulled into a scale house with leaks and they do a Level I, you and the company could get screwed.
DOT sometimes is looking for a reason to shut drivers and companies down.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
