Hey there TruckingTruth! I am looking at someone the info on the Florida DMV site but can't find a straight answer.

When I apply for my permit can I take all of the endorsement tests at that time? I plan to get all endorsements. Just so I can take any load. But do I have to wait until I have the actual CDL before this is a possibility? Thanks! And not to question TruckingTruth but is the training program on here more than sufficient to get me ready for the permit test and endorsements?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

The material on this site is excellent. I just passed all ofmy tests and endorsements. Florida does allow you to take everything at once. Just get there early or they might make you wait if it is too late in the day. You can get all of your endorsements with your permit. If you want HAZMAT be sure to check what offices offer that test. Only certain sites offer HAZMAT. They also do your fingerprinting right there for your TSA background. On the DMV site there is an application to fill out for it. It will save you time. Good luck. If you follow the High Road program it will be easy.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Great! I plan to get them all right off the bat! The endorsements are $8 each. And the hazmat is an additional $91 for the back ground checks and all. But that's understandable. I'll let you all know how it goes! I can get my permit now. Hmmm. Maybe I'll get it and find an unsuspecting soul to take me for some rides! Lol.
