I really don't want to wear a uniform every day for no reason.

It may not be for no reason. You might actually make more money that way. I mean, obviously the way we look has an influence on the amount of respect we might get not only from strangers but from people familiar with us. Now put yourself in the dock supervisor's shoes. Three drivers come in - two are smelly, dirty, foul-mouthed jerks and the third guy is smiling, friendly, smells nice, and is wearing a sharp uniform. Who do you think is going to get the best treatment? Who do you think has the best chance of getting loaded or unloaded early?
Or say you're rolling through a DOT checkpoint. A number of trucks have a dashboard full of garbage and many are driven by grimy looking slobs. Then along comes a sharp red Averitt truck with a clean-cut driver dressed sharply. Who do you think is more likely to get inspections and often times tickets?
Time is money. If you can get better service at customers and more lenient treatment from DOT it's going to equate to more money in your pocket.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Lebanon, TN has a few major accounts for Averitt both for dedicated and truckload. we take several loads out of that area each day. I am based out of Clarksville, TN and often pick up in Lebanon to start my week.
Although I too am not a fan of the uniform, Brett has it right. It does make a difference. I have learned that we will never get everything our way, so, a little compromise can lead to a bigger pay off.

Since I have looking into this trucking gig, I have been paying closer attention to company names on the rigs.
I travel a lot on US 231 in Tennessee. I have seen an amazing amount of Averitt Express trucks on this route.
I was wondering where they are going / coming from... I am only on that stretch for a few minutes each day, which means there must be dozens and dozens of Averitt's rigs on this route if I see 2 or 3 every day.
I'm speaking of the stretch North of I 40 , above Lebanon TN and ending in Scottsville KY....
Just wondering.... this route goes right by my house.
