Woud love to swap stories.Best of luck to youPlease do Tracy, I have also recently signed up, what a chore picking a good school! I think the waiting is the hardest part, I've talked to my recruiter on the phone, various e mails and have a DOT physical scheduled for Monday. To say I'm nervous is a complete understatement! Two weeks left at my ccurrent job at Pepsi, the anticipation and stress are rising daily... I read trucking truth blogs every day, imagining being on the road, making those "Oh no" mistakes, But, knowing I'm not alone definitely helps. A few friends who drove in the past share stories, some funny, some, well, not so much. For those who are comparing schools, i wanted to share some of my anticipated-hire material from Roehl transport. I live in New York, Buffalo, to be precise, so i signed up for the (correct me if in wrong in terminology lol) dedicated runs on the east coast. My three week training will be as i mentioned, in Wi, unpaid, after, a thirteen day run with a trainer to evaluate and teach more. For that i will get paid ninety dollars a day. Completion of that will earn me a five hundred dollar sign on bonus. While I'm certain it's not written in stone, I'll be driving the basic triangle of Rhode Island, New Jersey, Indiana. Reading stories of New York City certainly do not put my mind at ease ha, but, it's an adventure. Pay rates will be 34 cents per mile and 36 cents per mile in certain areas such as dreaded New York, New Jersey, and parts of PA... If you are looking into schools to learn tuck driving, DO Your Due Diligence! Read trucking truth, a wonderful asset for us, and other web sites, ask questions, make phone calls, its taken me eight months to decide and commit fully. But. Above all, i find myself very excited to learn more about the industry.
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Operating While Intoxicated
I had my physical Monday, and I start school this coming Monday morning. I am very nervous, but, very optimistic as well. This ride was doing tons of research, and preparation, but, starting Monday I will give my day by day reports, as I am training, and getting ready for P.A.M. TransportIt has really been a ride choosing the right school, but after many months, I have chose the school, and I am now preparing to go. The awesome thing about the school, and company I chose ,is I am an hour and a half from the school. Having an ADHD child at home, and a pregnant wife, it works better for us until we get his meds regulated. What company am I going with? PAM Transport. I go for my physical August 18, and start school August 25. No team driving after my 6 weeks with my trainer, and a $1200 sign on bonus. I am super excited, and will add to this log as time goes along
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Agreed Tracy! What a hoot it's been.. I'm leaving Saturday to drive to Roehl, leaving a day early to stop and see some relatives on the way and perhaps a lil.. "Pseudo-tourism" lololol I think it will be an interesting contrast to the different types of training between companies. As of Monday i will also share a daily recount provided of course there is time! Hope you find it exactly as you researched and hopefully exactly how you want it!
