I am Beautiful, I am Strong, I am Courageous, I have a great memory (lol) I can do this!!!!! right? RIGHT? Of course. I am terrified! Please read my article on the general forum and tell me your thoughts. ( I kissed a semi's grill Confession). That is bothering me. Also just as I was moving out of state My headlight went out I had every proof of insurance card but... the current one.(Yes I was covered) How do I find out if I have an unpaid ticket in another state? Would it not have showed up on my DMV report? Call the court house? Police Dept? I thought I was going to be a mom and wife very small window of opportunity, so I have not worked for the last 3.75 years.( Yeah not working out) Plus now I am away from my family and friends. Prior to that pretty solid just no recent. I must get out of the situation I am in, I must get this ball rolling NOW! Zero support at home. Just shoot me some words of encouragement!!! Ready or not give me a push or just a nudge. I have been all over this site the last few months Great stories, great info, great people. Thanks to all of you I will be fine.shocked.png

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Mikki, I do think you will be fine! I think if any driving occurrences are at least 5 years old you should be fine. But to make yourself feel better call a few company recruiters and ask them. I have already gotten 5 pre-hire letters and to do that I had to give them my information and drivers license number. They checked my driving record and said I was ok and I had a failure to maintain assured cleared distance 6 years ago. I've had nothing since then. It sucks when things in our personal life doesn't work out. I was married for 19 years and my ex left me for another woman and life has been difficult for the last 10 years or so. But, I have survived and have a roof over my head so I am doin' ok. You will be fine of that I am sure, but you have to believe in yourself and tune out the outside none supportive noise. The people on this forum are the best (women and men), so come here if you need to be bucked up. And btw, I am jealous because you live in Phoenix where all 3 of my children have moved to! smile.gif

Pre-hire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Good morning Mikki! I just Googled some companies Brett had list on here that hire new drivers and gave them a call. I have pre-hire letters from Werner, Swift, Roehl, Schneider, and I am going to get one from Melton tomorrow. There may be companies in the Western half of the US you might be interested in so check them out too. Most of the big companies have drop lots or terminals in Phoenix, but that really doesn't matter too much. If a company hires from your state you will be able to get home time. I read the info the companies had on their websites to see if I even wanted to bother applying to them and have talked with some recruiters more than others, but that is mostly because I am not in school yet. I have applied for WIA funds and there are many hoops to jump through, so it may take a while to finish the process. I decided a company school wasn't for me after reading on the general board and what the men have said about them. I am well educated so the rules and regs part doesn't bother me, but driving an 18 wheeler is a skill and I wanted to make sure my schooling is the best that it can be. I have found great support here and I am sure you will too!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I think they have dry van too which is what I am interested in. I have no desired to try to lift a tarp at 5' tall! I like the fact they are in to wellness, because I have lost a significant amount of weight over the last few years and need to lose some more. It is nice to see they are concern with the health of their drivers. I'll be bummed if they only do flatbed as I am definitely not interested in that!

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Oh my goodness you are right! I just checked out their website a little closer and I will have to scratch them off of my list too. That stinks.....oh well. :-(

Phew! Yall ladies are making a girls head spin lol But seriously have either of you read bretts free book online? Im not savy like the guys who post long responses and links but its on here somewhere. And in answer to your question yes ma'am you most certainly can do anything you set your mind to including becoming a kick ass trucker. If I did it so can you and hey now they let me train ppl to! Go figure huh Melton is a flatbed company only. You kinda have to start by deciding if you want to go to private school or company sponsored. That will change your options some.

Mikki, you'll have time in the truck to play language cds and learn some Spanish. A friend & I were saying just that over dinner this evening. Knowing a bit of Spanish could come in handy out on the road someday!

Hey Red good to hear from you. I just finished Brett's book Friday as a matter of fact, good stuff. Old School's beginning was pretty inspiring also. I am kinda a nervous wreck right now lol. Just needed some confidence boosting!! Thank you.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
