Mikki, you'll have time in the truck to play language cds and learn some Spanish. A friend & I were saying just that over dinner this evening. Knowing a bit of Spanish could come in handy out on the road someday!

Got me a pimsleur cd and a new app Duolingo looks good check it out. I absolutely want to know what's going on out there! (spanish speakers)

Hey Red good to hear from you. I just finished Brett's book Friday as a matter of fact, good stuff. Old School's beginning was pretty inspiring also. I am kinda a nervous wreck right now lol. Just needed some confidence boosting!! Thank you.

I understand where you are coming from Mikki about being a nervous wreck...trust me I do. When I first started school I was cool but, whenever I had to take tests.....my left hand would do this crazy shake thing like I have Parkinson's Disease (hmmm, I better check into that). Anyways, I'd pass my tests and STILL be shaking. confused.gif

Hey Cole thank you for the response!! Whew! Crazy anxiety! Your info is probably on this site somewhere, where did you choose to go for schooling? What company do you want to work for? Any other women and did you request or want a female trainer? If I can get a professional driver I don't think (Idk) if I care. What are your thoughts on that? Thank you again and best of luck to youthank-you.gif

I got my CDL last week. I complete the course the end of this month at a county's vocational school (about$2300). I am one of two females in my class of 11. I am in the process of relocating AND getting my job -that has my name on it- with a tanker division- Schneider, Indian River, CTL and some others. I don't mind if my trainer is male or female. I just want a professional driver that can teach. I'll keep everyone updated. And thanks....smile.gif

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I personally would rather have a non-smoking male over a smoking female for a trainer any day. I come from a family of smokers but just cannot stand to be around it!

Hey Jolie, I didn't think of smoking or not. I figure it's temporary anyway, I can deal if i can get fresh air. But, I swear to all that is Holy, if some s.o.b. puts his hands on me he will be missing it. Permanently.

Mikki...you are stressin' over alot of things that you can work out as you go !!!! TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME !!! Women are good at that. We figure out what we want...figure out the steps to get it...and the GO for it !!! SO.....first...figure out where you want your home base, if you want to go home on a regular basis. If not...then start finding places to train you...check with the local employment office to see if you can get a WIA grant to pay for your schooling...check local community colleges...If that doesn't pan out, then APPLY AT ALL the trucking companies that train. Find out what they pull...dry van, reefer , etc...choose what you want to pull...then choose your school.... But more than anything....do it step by step....get into the High Road trucking training here....it will help you tons in getting your permits, endorsements( you want them all) and mostly in your cdl school training. AND....we are here to help you do it all....we got your back...women make FANTASTIC truck drivers, that companies are happy to hire. And if your trainer turns out to be a knuckle dragging pervert...you just drop a dime to the supervisor of training...they WILL fix the problem ASAP...they don't want to be sued. Now...go break all of this down to steps you can deal with, and get yourself going !!!!
