Sorry If I made hasty comments, It just took me by surprise. Obviously I have been researching for awhile. But it just caught me off guard. I seriously thought 3-4 wks schooling, 4-6 wks on the road with a trainer or two even. That also was my first conversation with anyone. As I am just beginning the process. It's all going to be ok, I will be fine
Mikki, Roehl is my top pick so far in companies. They won't let you go solo if they don't think you are ready so the short time with a trainer does not concern me.
Jolie, I just felt the longer you were with a trainer the more experience for different situations. What if everything goes great for 10 days, and you never encounter sticky situations? I want that with someone, see how they handle it you know? Yes I want my hand held for a minute! lol I took a ski lesson once and the guy wasn't going to show us how to get up if we fell, he says you'll be fine. I said show me! Anyway just some thoughts.
In order to be hired by any company OTHER THAN the one you train with, you must have 160 hours of school training....THEN you go out on the road. So that would be 4 weeks schooling, in the class room, on the driving pad, etc. It is becoming an issue for the insurance companies who insure trucking companies. Now companies like Prime, and alot of the others are self insured, so they do what they want...And in my opinion, Prime does not give enough driving time on the training course......Prime is a great company, don't get me wrong...just doesn't seem safe to me. So choose wisely.....
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Mikki, I totally agree, that does not seem long enough! This will all be completely new to me, and I want to learn as much as possible before I get turned loose!! Coincidentally, I was in Marshfield, WI this weekend, and happened upon the Roehl terminal. Pretty big operation from the looks of it, super tidy (from the outside, at least)!
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I talked to a man at the Roehl's school today. He said 6 days Safety and Skills. 10-14 days with a trainer. You then get assigned a fleet mngr. or someone from HR. To call for questions or daily check in. That's IT!? Solo in 3 weeks WHAAAAT!? Sorry if this is a reality check for me but holy cow! Are you kidding? That in no way shape or form can be long enough! The only positive (to me) that I got out of the conversation was that the trainers have permission from there spouses to train.
I was surprised myself when I spoke to them and found out the length of time we're out with a trainer. I start on September 22 in Marshfield.

Hi Jennifer, are you going through a private school or Rohel's company school? I am hoping to be enrolled in our local tech school by the beginning of Sept. and then possibly going to Roehl afterward. Keep us update on how things go as it seems a lot of folks are interested in Roehl right now as opposed to everyone jumping on the Prime bandwagon!
Hi Jennifer! Best of luck to you! Stay safe! Definitely keep us posted
