Hey Erik, where you settling back from? I'm in the same boat..I lived overseas for 24 years and just getting back to the USA..finding it hard to get companies to talk to me at first, but have had a couple of good conversations with Swift and Prime..things look positive..
Sage is a very good school. They actually have a chain of locations and they've been around for quite a while.
If you haven't already, you absolutely want to read our articles about How To Choose A Truck Driving School. You'll learn how to evaluate and compare different schools so you're choosing a solid one that suits you well. Make sure you read through all of those articles before going any further and making any decisions.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Hey Erik, I'm at Sage in Grand Junction, CO right now, beginning class on Monday! Sage is an excellent organization and school. Read my posts on in the Training Diaries section of this forum. The school in Kingman is relocated to Phoenix. Both directors of the schools are professional, courteous, kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and become part of your family. They WANT you to SUCCEED, not only in school, but AFTERWARDS!!!!!!! Same with the staff!!! The instructors I've met so far are nothing but honest, hard working, experienced gentlemen in the trucking industry. The classes are SMALL, mine on Monday will ONLY have 3 students, oh and the have 3 beautiful Freightliners with 3 beautiful 53' footers to use, so guess what, no waiting for a truck or stand around watching someone else waiting for your turn. The OTR portion in 1 on 1. Now I am talking!!!! After visiting the Kingman school, I wrote an email to the vice president about my wonderful experience, and guess what? She wrote back within 24 hours thanking me for what I wrote and told me she would pass it onto the president. How impressive. I will keep all posted on my experience with Sage so stay tuned. Ask my anything you want and I will do my best to answer or get the answer for you. Be safe!

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Thanks for the info guys. I really feel this is the driving school I'm going with. I have family up in Coeur d'Alene where there's a school. If I stay with them during training I can save a lot of money.

I just got back from Japan. The biggest hurdle of getting into this industry is the fact that I don't have any US driving history. Did you have this problem as well?

Yes and no..I lived close enough to the US that I got back a couple of times a year and still drove just to stay in practice..country I lived in drove on the left like Japan..so BIG adjustment every time I came back home..also, I renewed my US drivers license last time I was in the US, just to have a history on it despite not driving. My biggest issue was/is work history..because I have lived out of the CONUS for 20 years, employers are reluctant to do the legwork to get my work history..however, they WILL accept tax returns as proof of employment..go figure...

I've been off this forum for a couple of months as I get settled back in the USA. I was recommended to go to Sage as a driving school. Has anyone gone to this school? Do companies hire drivers from them often? Any information will help since I'm looking at going to this school.
