personally I don't really care for the scrolling. I have to scroll back up to see what someone else had said...

When you're on the main page which lists all of the topics you have a couple of choices - you can click on the subject itself and it will simply take you to the beginning of the topic. And as you've noticed, when you click on "jump to new replies" it will take you straight to the first new reply. This option kind of assumes you already know what was said to that point and you just want to see the newest stuff.

I guess either way there's going to be some scrolling involved. Either I take you to the top of the page with the newest replies and you scroll down to find them while reading along the way. Or I take you down the page to the first new reply and you might have to scroll up a bit to see what was said previously.

I would definitely like to hear as many opinions as possible on this. So far the few opinions I've gotten seem to favor the automatic scrolling overall and I must say I kinda like it myself. But I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm just going to go with whatever seems to work best for the most people.

I like the auto scroll to the first new reply. If I want/need to remember something I have the opportunity to scroll up. 90% of the time I have a good idea of what is happening when the new reply comes up. Save me time both on the computer and especially on the phone.

I personally dislike mobile versions of websites as they seem dumbed down. Even on my phone I use the desktop versions. For the smart phone users please give us the options of using desktop or mobile website.

Oh I know what ya mean. A lot of em are dumbed down - they eliminate a lot of what you're looking for. I have no intention of eliminating anything. All of the exact same information and functionality will be there. The only changes I make is to increase the text size, increase the size between any links so you don't "fat finger" them, and I'll lighten up some of the animations and styling so it runs better on the phones which have less RAM and processing power.

But anything you can do with the desktop version you'll be able to do with the mobile version. But I can easily set it up so that you can switch between the two - that's no problem.

I haven't been on here for a while and I haven't seen any of the newest versions, but I think that you should do the replies to the threads in reverse order so the newest reply is always on the top and you have to scroll down to see any of the original first reply. Or maybe you can have that as 1 of the new layout version you can choose from.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Oh, and I forgot there is 1 more thing. When I'm using the forum I like to go to the oldest unread thread and read every thread until I get all the new threads read but when you click on a thread there's no way to hit previous topic or next topic like there was on the old forum so you have to go back to the main page and then select the next 1 on the list that you want to read, and that's a pain on my phone so I would like a previous thread or next thread options.

Thanks for the suggestions Julia!

As far as listing the replies in opposite order, it's incredibly difficult and confusing to read through a conversation that way. Once in a great while I'll find someone who has a blog with their comments listed with the most recent ones at the top and you have to scroll down the page and work your way up to follow the conversation. We just don't read bottom to top - books, magazines, newspapers - everything we read is top to bottom. It would feel backward doing it that way and if you wanted to follow a topic from the beginning you'd have to jump to the end of it and work backwards.

As far as the way you go through the topics - your method was mentioned by one other person who used to do it that way but the problem is kind of complex because people are posting regularly. What the "next topic" is at the moment may change in 10 seconds when someone posts something new to a different topic. And where should I send people? To the newest replies? To the beginning of the topic? To the last page of the topic? It's hard to say.

And there's 1000 different considerations for making that happen with the database and everything. Bottom line - it would be rather complex to implement and not many people would likely use it. We all have different ways of reading through the various topics and I've tried to implement a few different options for people (like the new "jump to topic" menu at the top of the page I put in yesterday) but I can't put em all in there. Right now I don't think I'm going to add that feature.

I think it is great, it would be helpful if the author of the thread was mentioned so it would be easier to find the exact topic that I am looking for. However, that may be just me, I just think that would be helpful.
