So I passed my CDL permit tests even added tanker to it just cause I knew the info. However I cannot get my permit until after I have the DOT physical done. How do people get their permits then get the physical at the school?
Pretty sure this depends on the state your from. Some states will let you "self certify" until you get to your school the get one officially on the record. Sounds like your state does not so this so would do a search for DOT physicals in your state and should get a listing of approved physicians you can make an appointmwnt with.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:
It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.
I found a place and got it done. Should have the permit in hand by the end of the week according to the dmv lady

This is what drives me crazy!!! The DOT regulates CDL's and it is" supposed" to be the same across the board, so if Federal is the rule it should be. But no, the states get their fingers into it because it's their DMV. They have to screw things up so that they can make some extra on fees, and or they just get their jollys messing with us. N.H won't let you take your hazmat test unless you have a DOT med card, even though you are fingerprinted and OK'd by TSA as NO RISK. On that point, Why if you have been run & ok'd do they have to take your original CDL license and give you a paper temp for up to 60 days, rather than just put a sticker on the back or even a marker saying Hazmat. They could make up your new one and when you go to pick it up turn in the old. Did you know that even though you have been run through the FBI, Homeland, etc. for prints and risk assessment, been cleared and approved that you can't use your Hazmat as proof to get your TWIC , and you can't use your TWIC to get Pre-pass for the airport. The new Universal Enrollment offices that handle all these things can't cross correlate the info because the US GOV. has not set it up yet. Sorry to go on like that but they wonder, Why we get upset? Have a wonderful night!!

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Michael, NH is famous for being a pain in the rear about getting a CDL. Believe me, you're not the first person they've frustrated. It's just an extra obstacle you have to overcome that most others don't have to. But you got it, take it a step at a time.

Thanks, I've had the CDL since 84 just hadn't renewed the Hazmat due to back problems and the drugs that I was on due to them. Figured if I'm going to jump back in I might as well cover my butt and get the TWIC also in case I run tanker. Nebraska was a pain in 90 when I changed licenses there. Take Care,
