I had a great load. From New Jersey to Oregon. The last 3 days I only got back around 7 hours each night, so I would start at midnight and drive nonstop till about 07:00 and have to sit and wait till midnight to drive again. Funny how the easiest weeks pay the best.

I know the feeling, my biggest weeks are always the ones where I can get up at 2am everyday and just drive one or two huge loads and it never feels like I'm doing a whole lot either. I think it also has to with the fact that we drive so early or late, however someone want's to perceive it that it feels like we didn't do a whole lot because during the day we get to just hang out and watch all these trucks come and go from the fuel island.

Night time has less traffic which makes it easier to get through large city's without having to deal with congestion.

It does come with some risks though, such as limited view while driving. You pretty much have to do the speed limit if not a little slower just incase a wild animal decides to venture into the freeway.

I personally prefer to drive at night. I'll drive during the day if I have to, but If its a long load, I'll run it pretty much at night.

PLUS it's a whole lot easier to find parking at truck stops and rest area's at 7a-11am.

I'm picking up a load at 8pm tonight with two stops in the AM and after that I'll be going home for hometime at around 9am and because I drove overnight I'll get the rest of the day to hang out with my family and probably just take naps when my kids do. All works out well and will feel like I didn't really do a whole lot of working.

I could not agree more on both facts.. the easier trips are the most profitable. My boss always told me its all in your point of view and attitude. Night is the way to go for me. If i could drive the speed limit I would not care as long as there's no 3 am roadworks. (yea) those are a pain... or this one time we were held up, idk, 12 miles long strip of parking lot on I-75 due to a pile up, not long ago, but... ya know the thing you sit on. You have to be on the lookout for those nifty little rice rockets and burners that love to go 100+ possibly losing control in front of your cab.

Those are the good days that make the job worth it. Getting a few extra hours with the fam is always a +!

I`m with y`all on the night driving. It just seems so smooth and peaceful. Not many 4 wheelers bouncing on your nerves and you get to listen to some cool, and weird, shows on the satellite radio.

Right now, I think I start driving early in the morning and stop driving in the afternoon. If my route lead through a major city, I will choose to drive night time. It depends on the road assignment and weather conditions/road conditions. I also want to see the country. It also depends on how crowded the truck stops are during whatever time period.

I have paid off my home and all my vehicles and don't have too many expenses at home. That is why I am more relaxed when it comes to earning money. I don't have to hunt for every dollar. Every pay is a revenue.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
