I've been meaning to post a similar sentiment as Brett's, but have been really busy with something I'll soon be sharing with you all. I didn't want to rain on MG's parade, but I didn't want to leave the impression that Conway was all screwed up either. I personally know some long time employees there that wild horses couldn't drag away. She just ran into some obstacles because of the personnel at a particular terminal , and that can happen at any trucking company.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Very true. Terminals can vary in nature pretty widely. You learn fairly quickly which ones you prefer to stay away from. I have also seen a company go in and completely reorganize a particular terminal because of enough ruckass being raised. Now that terminal is the best one of the bunch.

Its so funny how Wednesday I was at the Conway terminal in Kansas City, KS and it was freaking AWEFUL! It was the most unorganized, ridiculousness (yep not a word I know) that I have ever experienced in my whole life. I had a refused pallet and the customer wanted them to ship it back. Worst 2 hrs of my life. I at least got to watch 5 employees go at each other screaming in the back room! I finally had to pitch a "Diva fit" to get unloaded. Sorry for your disappointed but they did ya a favor. PS. Ill be in Denver tomorrow:-)

Aw really?! Where?! When?! Private message me or somethin'. Where are you gonna' be?

They kinda' tortured me with half truths regarding some of their rules, in the last week. When I called a couple of 'em out on it, it riled them up even more. I have no problem owning up to my own stuff or anything that I've done wrong but I won't even answer to false, bs, finger-pointing. I decided that aspect of this terminal wasn't going to go away and my kids didn't want to have to live with a mamma who was unhappy all the time.

And Old School, I may have gotten a little generalized with my critique, referring to "Con-way" this or "Con-way" that when I should have spoken of that terminal in particular.

As a whole, I really like the company. As a whole, Con-way Freight does SO MANY THINGS RIGHT.

At this terminal, if you're a manly-man, you'll do fine there. If you're a woman, you're going to have to tip-toe around a bit and be content with being a nobody and somewhat of a bitter chip on your shoulder ...all the time, because you're going to get trampled, often; OR you're going to have to muscle your way through - all the time. There was a 17-year senior female driver there who was a previous national champion driver with her name on a huge banner, and I'm telling you, they treated her like she didn't exist. She told me in the beginning, she wondered how long I was going to last under the pressure (I dismissed that comment at first, too) and when I told her of the issues that came up, weeks later, she was so supportive but she rolled her eyes and head, like "here we go. It's happening to another female again."

The head trainer at this terminal, for whatever reason, went ...out ...of ...his ...way to find reasons to draw negative attention towards me over things that misrepresented my integrity and even my skills as a driver. People with real problems of their own draw attention to others, to keep eyes off of themselves. The defining details make for a very long story blablabla but sometimes, all someone has to do is sugGEST that someone is lacking in integrity, skill, or both and the mere mention, plants a bad seed in a leader's head and from there on out, I can't fight the false image that was unfairly created. Yes, in the end, a person with true integrity prevails and doesn't have to worry about stupidity, and I knew that, but this stuff is decades behind the times, in the real world. This kind of thing hasn't happened to me in yeeeeears and I was caught off guard. I'd forgotten how to arm-wrestle that kind of thing back down to size, if I'm making any sense.

Granted, this will probably not be the last time I run into adversity as a woman in this profession, but next time, I'll know how to better handle mySELF and maybe even deflect the problem - and THAT's what I've learned from this experience. I wasn't thick-skinned enOUGH with these guys and I need to be more so. I'm just sorry I had to learn this with a company I actually did like, hence the ambivalence in my threads, in the end.

So true. And so cool that the terminal you refer to has shaped up.

Thanks, Man. I know you're going to have a lot to offer this profession and this website.

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I'm just a little, well, you know ...blue. LOL.

MG, it's their loss. You will find the right company with no problem, I'm sure.

They accused you of floating a gear??!? What is the sin in that? At Melton's orientation, the instructor introduced the students in my class to floating gears. I found it wonderful. I rarely use the clutch any more. The learning curve for me has been steep. I have made so many mistakes since I have started I think I would have been sent home before you had I received the same scrutiny. No one is a perfect driver either at the beginning or otherwise. With your attitude, you will succeed; especially with your military work ethic!

Floating Gears:

An expression used to describe someone who is shifting gears without using the clutch at all. Drivers are taught to "Double Clutch" or press and release the clutch twice for each gear shift. If you're floating gears it means you're simply shifting without using the clutch at all.

Oh, for that I was flattered. The B***head can accuse me of being good ...any time. The scrutiny was absurd.
