Buying a truck should be researched AFTER doing diligent investigation regarding the financial ability of the trucking industry to pay you enough to keep a truck, either used or new, running, plus feed, cloth, and house your family, pay for medical insurance, have money set back for any and all emergencies, AND have money set back for emergency truck repair.Having said that....There are ways that you can check on the repair history of any truck you are looking to buy. Nowdays, the VIN # is entered into a computer system, that nearly all reputable repair shops in all of the lower 48. So if you ask them to "run the VIN", you would be able to see what had been done on the truck. We never bought a used truck with over 500k miles, cuz when you add another 500k miles OR LESS, you are in need of an inframe rebuild. Generally speaking, the lower the miles the better off you will be. We are owner operators, and with the economy in the condition that it is in, I would not suggest buying a truck.
An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
