I have driven supers and conventional side by side and i can tell you 2 things supers do weigh less and "small potholes" arnt felt as much i actually tested this with a specific set of them in one of our yards. not a huge difference but for pot holes smaller than the supers themselves you can actually tell the difference.

from what i understand, the super tires are more expensive to replace but having used both i have not had any fail yet. i believe for the larger companies its all a numbers game really and it appears there must be some benefit if so many companies are switching to them. gotta remember some of the larger companies deal in 100ths of a single % when they think about improvements

Yes big companies have to think about even the smallest improvement. Let's use your example.....100ths of a single percent. If that company has 12000 to 15000 trucks then that will mean a lot of money saved by that company. On the other hand a small 1 truck operation will not see the same savings. So you are correct. Its a numbers game.

I hadn't thought about them riding a little more smoothly over potholes - that definitely makes sense that they would be.

They would have to require them, for us to change. For all the $$$ you may save in mpg, one service truck call to change a flat, that you can't limp into a truck stop, would about wipe out all your savings. We work to stay away from calling the service trucks....they really bleed ya. We've limped in with a thrown shoe more than once...
