Nope, that's the way it's set up. You have 59 seconds after logging in to change your status to off-duty. If you miss that window, your 14 hour duty clock is ticking and can't be stopped.

Not exactly. Yes, if you don't immediately put yourself off duty it will put you on line 4, but you can (unless the company disables the feature for some odd reason) edit the on duty time to off duty and spare your 14 hour clock. Just hit the "approve" tab, tap the on duty time block, and hit the edit button. Then you can simply change the duty status for that block of time. In the "why are you making this edit?" field, just put in something to the effect that you are just logging into the system. It doesn't give you a whole lot of room, so you have to be brief.
And if your company's safety and compliance people give you a ration of manure about it, you might want to think about finding a new company, because even the feds won't twitch a whisker about something like that.
Very good. Thanks!
Yes, you are correct, but my previous company blocked the editing feature; said too many were abusing it. If your company allows it, then you do have the ability to modify the elog.

Anyone know how to log into the machine without it automatically placing you on duty?
