Welcome Erin! I have 10 years on you and hope to be starting a company school by mid October. I am single and and my kids are grown also, so I figured what the heck! I would advise you to start studying the High Road Training materials as they will help you in passing the tests for your permit. While the questions on your state exam might not be identical, the knowledge you gain from the material is what you will need to pass the tests. Good luck and we are glad you joined us!!!
Welcomr to the crazy club:-) lol
I just love to see the ladies here help each other !!! I've been mia with the lung/head crap that also makes you dizzy...so computer screens weren't my best friend....I needed to read my facebook....so I had hubby read it to me !!!!
You are never to old to embark on a new adventure.....Its a spiritual journey.....and trucking is a life STYLE....not a job. But lets be honest...where else can get paid for being a tourist ??? Its not always easy, Its not always pleasant, Its not always fun.....but dang it....life isn't always any of those things either !!!! S o step out there and get started on your next adventure..... I'm retired from trucking....but I've started my next adventure !!! I'm building a TRIKE.....from a Pontiac Fiero...Its gonna be an eye catcher, a once in a lifetime thing for me....and since I miss trucking....I'm puttin' AIR HORNS on it !!! Oh....and ground effect lights.....and sequential tail lights, and a custom airbrush paint job...There will NEVER be another bike like this on...And yes, I'll have a 2nd up seat for those lady drivers who come thru my neck of the woods, and wanna feel the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, and the bugs on your teeth !!!!
So ya'll get out there and earn your seat.....you'll grow as a woman, and your self esteem will blossom.

Hey Ladies, Great to find this resource. I'm 43 and looking at the options for either getting my CDL through a school or sponsor companies. I am leaving the corporate rat race to follow a childhood dream of driving a truck OTR. Everyone is going to think I am crazy. But, my son is grown and on his own and it's my time! A bit overwhelmed at the choices...any advice?

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
OTR:

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
