I love running my ideas by other people because you're almost certainly going to get a long list of reasons not to do something. As nice as it would be to get encouragement, the reality is you have to be able to make sense out of doing something. If you can't respond to the critics in a way that satisfies you then you know you're considering a bad idea.

And for everyone out there keep something in mind....people in general do not like to see others have success unless the person in question is your mom or they themselves have had a lot of success in their lifetime. So you might expect that coming up with a grand vision for your life would be met with respect and enthusiasm, but rarely is that the case. More often than not if you dream big your ideas (and at times your progress) are going to be stomped upon by those who fear you're going to make them look or feel bad. Everyone wants success. Everyone wants to live their dream life. But the reality is that very, very few people are willing to put in the work or take the risk to make it happen. So they settle for far less than they're capable of. It's not hard to imagine that the last thing those people want to see is someone else willing to work harder and take more risk to get somewhere in life.

So choose your own path in life but make sure you've thought it out well first. Give the naysayers the opportunity to question your ideas but ultimately make your own choices.

Well said. That's exactly right. "When people try to undermine your dreams, predict your doom, or criticize you. Remember, they're telling you their story, not yours."

I've commuted into DC for years without a single accident, I live in Prince George County, Maryland which has one of the highest murder rates in the country, I trained "dangerous dogs", I hired kids from Friendly High School one of the deadliest high schools in the county, live is dangerous. The most dangerous job I think I had was sitting at a desk stressing out about a job I hated.

When you experience that feeling of true accomplishment, you can smile and quietly, under your breath, thank all the nay-sayers.

Christ i cant stand people who at the drop of a hat will try to say anything to squash someone elses dreams, or even just something they want to do. As has been said before, this isnt about you, its about them not taking the chances in their own life that they wanted to and its painful to them to see others doing so.

Dont let them get you down, live your life the way you want, risks be damned, nay sayers be double-damned!

On a side note, is truckng really that dangerous? If i had to choose between moms minivan and an 80k lbs truck to drive through rush hour traffic twice a day, I would take the truck.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

My father in law said "You will not like it" after I told him what I was trying to do. I wanted to say "well how the hell do you know what I will like and not like?" but I didn't. I actually get along better with him than my wife does so I kept my mouth shut. So what if I don't like it? I'll never know til I do try it. Then if I don't like it, I'll just drop down to something local or at least try to. Somewhere, someone will need a CDL A Driver and I will be there. I have wanted to drive a truck for years just chose not to because I figured i wasn't "Built" for it. Not to mention I was comfortable being a Paint Slinger, made decent money for the hours I worked, didn't have anyone looking over my shoulder telling me how to do my job (Other than at the beginning of the job). So after all I have said here, i say Go for it, I am.

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
