I watched it, teared up a little. Now I'm thinking maybe this is not for me. I have wanted to drive for awhile now and my wife says she is ok with it but is she really or is she just doing her job as a wife and backing me on my decision to do this? I'll never know I guess. I do plan to sit down with her Today and discuss this more to see if anything has changed, a thought from her or a pause with a response from a question, maybe a different look will tell me if she is doing her job as stated before or she really wants me to do this. This is about all I have left that I can do to help her with my Job as a husband and father.
Let her watch the video.
That really was extremely well done. That was probably the most "real" video about truckers I have ever seen.
I've never been married and I don't have any children so I can't speak to the family part of it. But I can say from living the better part of 15 years on the road that there are no words that can do justice when trying to describe the job and life of an OTR driver. The long days, the risks you take, and the solitude of the job balance with the incredible scenery, fascinating people, and the once in a lifetime experiences you'll find nowhere else.
Personally I think that anyone who has a longing to try trucking as a career should do it. There's very little risk in giving it a shot. The schooling is rather short and inexpensive so you'll make back the tuition in a few months. At that point you could walk away, no questions asked. You would be debt free and you'd have a long list of memories and stories to tell for the rest of your life. You'd also have a backup career to fall on should you need it anytime in the future. And best of all, even a few months in the trucking industry will change your perspective on life, you can be sure of that.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
