When i first started to consider this for a career. one of my first thoughts were "what a huge responsibility to drive something that can take someones life if done incorrectly" i need to dedicate myself to learning from all the instructors, trainers and you all on the interweb whom are true professionals and give a 110% to being a professional as well. My heart goes out to the families of all the victims in this tragedy.
The semi truck driver who crashed into a bus carrying the North Central Texas College women’s softball team last year, killing four players, was likely high on synthetic drugs at the time of the crash, federal investigators have concluded.

Do they say he was "likely" high on drugs because it's still in court. Why can't they say he was? I don't know much about synthetic drugs and how they metabolize, but I would think they would take a blood sample as soon as possible and be able to find such drugs? I don't know?
If he was high he should absolutely be prosecuted to full extent of the law. My son was hit by a drunk and doped person and if not for circumstances he probably would have gotten away with it. Not much happened to him criminally (my son was injured, but not killed) but we were able to sue the company the person was working for (pizza delivery person) and he was awarded money. A minor at the time he got an annuity, plus medical (which our insurance company got, of course).
I hope this does not put on more stupid regulations for drivers. I don't mean drug test and physical, but time restrictions. I have been riding with my husband and the time constraints are confusing. I know 14 hour is 14 hours, but really wouldn't it be better to get good rest instead of forced rest?
I hope justice is served to these girls and their families. I also hope that truck drivers know their responsibilities and understand that the impact of a vehicle accident is 20 fold to being in a passenger vehicle.

The NTSB concluded Staley’s drug use was the primary cause of the crash after looking at toxicology reports, his history of drug use and his behavior at the time of the collision.
The NTSB recommended tougher testing for synthetic marijuana, but they admit that that goal will be hard to accomplish because current drug testing methods have a hard time confirming its presence. Also, scientists haven’t done enough research to understand how long synthetic marijuana stays in a person’s system.
Some reports are also saying that authorities found a small pipe containing residue of synthetic marijuana in the truck after the crash.
And so many people have posted here about wanting to fight for their "right" to use marijuana.....

I don't use. A simple solution is "You don't use, PERIOD, regardless of the law."

Synthetic marijuana is not even close to what actual marijuana is.
CBD/THC the two primary components of cannabis, are not even replicated or synthesized in the various versions of the so called synthetic marijuana. Marinol, which can be prescribed, is an actual extract, that is replicated, to varying degrees of success.
These synthetic versions are a chemical hodgepodge sprayed on some inert herbs, such as tea leaves, or another mostly harmless plant. None of which belong to the same gene pool family of cannabis. On the packaging it will show you the various herbs, but not the makeup of the chemical treatment they undergo before packaging. One lab report found, ddt, arsenic and a few other deadly compounds, in the chemicals used in the brand known as K2.
Using marijuana is not a right, but it should not be a crime. My cousin who has ALS, uses it to bring relief to his various symptoms, and it has actually slown down the degenerative effects of his disease.
We could easily get into a debate about this, but Driving under the Influence of ANY substance is very stupid, at the least, and highly dangerous when you add 20K + lbs into the mix.
Like David D. Said, don't use period, regardless of the law.

I would like to refrain from placing blame or judging a book by its cover. There are still alot of unanswered questions. The truth will come out in time though.
