I am itching to get in CDL school and get Out On the Road. I am a proud christian. I wont go into a sermon but if it wasn't for the love that Christ showed me on the Cross and the People he put in my life i would not be alive. How hard is it to live the christian life on the road? Are there Trucker Ministries out there? I know you can always attend a worship service on every Sunday but how do you fellow brothers and sisters in Christ get your Church On? How do you get spiritually fed on the road? I'll hang up and listen to yalls response.

CDL:

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hi Michael, Depending on where you are on a Sunday, you might not be able to attend a church service, it all depends. Life on the road is always full of uncertainty and surprises. As far as living the Christian life on the road, it's really no different than anywhere you might be, unless if by the "Christian life" you're referring to attending regular church services or gatherings.

For me, there is plenty of time and opportunity to live the Christian life anywhere - on the road or not. And I'd sum up the Christian life as loving God with all your heart, and your neighbor. Of course there's a lot that's left unsaid with that. Loving God also means obedience, but I don't want to go into a lengthy sermon myself. This is not a forum for Christianity, so I'll be respectful of that and try to choose my words wisely.

You'll have a lot of time by yourself, which you can spend in prayer and meditation. On your downtime you can read Scripture. And everywhere your travels take you, you'll have opportunity to show love and kindness to others on the road, especially as they're flipping you off for driving a big 'ol truck that's in their way. Yep, plenty of opportunity for spiritual growth on the road, and opportunity to share love and grace. I understand what you mean by being spiritually fed, but for me, being spiritually fed is also ways I can give back the love and grace that God has shown me.

I'm not aware of any trucker ministries. Honestly, due to the type of running I do, I don't have any time on the road except to drive and rest. I hope you find this post useful and encouraging.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Most TA's and Petros have a chapel on site and have services sundays and wednesdays. Now whether you can stop or not is a different story all together. If you have a load to deliver then that takes priority and it has to be on time to the customer. But if you are ahead of schedule and have the time to stop then you can attend the chapel on the days they are open.

Attending church services might be possible sometimes.

We listen to sermons on CD, and on the satellite radio. There's down time when we can read our bible.

I'll warn you about the CB... Lots of filthy language and negativity on there. Drivers seem to like putting each other down and talking trash. We leave our CB off 99% of the time.

Drivers in 4 wheelers are often rude, as well as truck drivers. Each day is a challenge to stay at peace with the world... Haha.

Michael B,

I never feel the need to "get my church on" because I try to live the word of my heavenly father every day, in every situation put in front of me. You already have the ability to do the same.

The fact you are asking the question leads me to believe that you are being called to the road. It may be harder somedays to keep the fire going, but that little light of yours is going to shine out on the road in a way it never will in your home church. But you have less accountability out here, but we are out here and the Lord equips you adequately, if we continue to put Him first.

Just dont forsake the assembly with other Christians when the opportunity arises on the road. There are trucking chapels and services along the road and they need our support and we need theirs.

David
