I go to orientation with US XPRESS starting next Monday. I have been reading older post on here. Can you guys give me any advise on orientation and the company. I am planning on running the dedicated route when I finish training. Thanks,

Dedicated Route:

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

I got offered the job too with US XPress. Its a dedicated run from Ohio, Michigan and Penn. Home every night. Crazy long hours. Good pay I am told. Right now I'm in customer service and enjoy it. But it pays peanuts.

Yes mine is a dedicated route in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and possible Alabama. Just looking forward to getting rolling.

Their orientation isn't bad. There is more downtime to it than anything. You do your drug test, fitness test ( Duck walk weight carrying etc.) go over paperwork, get briefed on some policies, briefed on driver tech (elog) and their "circle of service." The second day you do a quick road test. The third day you are pretty much waiting around to officially get hired and if you are a student, you wait to get assigned your trainer.

They bought lunch. At the Springfield terminal , they bought half sub sandwiches. It wasn't bad.

At the Springfield terminal, they put you up in the Quality Inn hotel. It's ok..nothing great. They will double you up with someone. I paid extra to have my own room.

My trainer sucked. He suffered from depression and social anxiety per his own words. His tractor was filthy and his hygiene definately needed work. Make sure you ask to do ALL of the backing. believe me, you will benefit from the practice.

After 150 hours, you go through an upgrade road test (easy) and get issued your tractor. When you get issued this tractor, check it out good!!!

My tractor was used, missing its fire extinguisher mount and loaded with safety problems. It was so bad it caused friction between myself and my fleet manager. YMMV.

Good luck!

Elog:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DWI:

Driving While Intoxicated
