Okay, maybe I can help out here.
Your CDL has to be in the state where you declare your residence address. Now Bill, if you live in Florida and the Roadmaster school you are attending is in Florida, then your license will be issued to you from the state of Florida.
Now Captain K. Miles on the other hand lives in Virginia, but he is going to school in Indiana. More than likely he will have to declare an Indiana address which will be at the school where he is staying, and then once he gets his CDL from Indiana, he will go back home to Virginia and have it transferred to his permanent residence address in that state.
Some of the states are getting picky about this here lately and don't appreciate these trucking schools pulling the business and revenue from their states so they are requiring people to come and test out in their home states to get their license. This is still kind of being sorted out, so it is subject to change by the various state legislatures. But your final license must be from your home state.

I know when I was accepted to Knight's Squire program in Indiana, when it came for the CDL road test, they said I would be sent home to Minnesota to take the test with my trainer. But I decided to pay for a private school instead to give me more options for my first job

Is that what I'm going to have to do... Is this going to be a problem for me to do with those ever so helpful and cheerful employees at DMV

Wait.. the CDL is from dmv not the school. So that would be like saying if i lived there and moved I would have to take the class all over even if I was driving 10 years. That don't sound right but I will look into it Monday. Thanks

When you do the company sponsored school you use their address for the states DMV then you go to your home state to transfer it over but there is 3 states that don't except those cdls and I could be wrong but Virginia and Maryland are on that list.... You can Google it or check your dmvs website Maryland DMV website states it on the site just a heads up don't want to go through all that just to find out you can't transfer it

Oh man, I wonder if PA will accept a VA test. That would really suck if I had to test out in PA. I'm hoping to test out right at school, then head to the PA DMV and get it all taken care of.
