I alway bring a large coffee can with the lid. With me and A roll or TP inside it. About 24 years ago I was hunting in a blind in south Texas. It was early in the morning. And bam....😳 I needed to go so bad. It was just getting day light. I told myself to make it quick and I knew the chances of seeing anything after that was zero ! So I went down the ladder and started walking without my rifle. And I walked. I stoped about three times with this feeling I was being watched.😳 but I could no longer hold it. So I went to the thorny tree and droped my pants and held on to the tree with one hand and held my pants away with the other hand and did my thing. Luckily I have allergies and had a box of Kleenex in my pockets. I walked back to the blind and felt like I was feeling watched still.😳 so I claimed up set down and grab my rifle and started to scop out my area. It was quite. Man I screwed up. Then about ten minutes later. I could see people moving around. What the hell......then I heard them speaking in Spanish . They made a line to the fence line. The guy in front steped on the bottom wire and pulled the other one up. Then one by one they went. My lord I just dropped my pants and showed my ass to 1,2,3..... 30 people. Lol I was 😳. Never again. After that. Large Coffee can for the what ifs. Safty 1st ladies. I didn't even have my side arm on. Just saying I alway have one just in case. Only needed it once sence then.

Hubby purchased us a fancy porta potty from a camping store. It even flushes! We urinate it, which is sealed off in the bottom container of the potty. We buy potty deodorant liquid at Wal-Mart, pour that in, no smell at all.

If we need to number 2, we have potty garbage bags that we set down in the toilet and do our business into the poopy bag. When done, tie up the bag and dispose of it in a garbage can somewhere.

Works perfectly. We paid $160 for our potty, it's great. Its small enough to leave sitting in our floor.

Some guys pee in Gatorade bottles. And keep a bucket and garbage bags handy. Keep some baby wipes handy too, and air freshener.

This may seem gross, but it's part of this way of life.

Be prepared because rest areas and truck stops are not always available.

This type of info, while it will not save a life, still needs to be shared. Trucking is hard enough just starting out and if we can help answer questions and relieve at least one worry then that is the least we can do.

I would rather talk about this than really be offended by the smell of body odor. I have a great sense of smell and when passing some of these people in truck stop it makes me want to cut my nose off and burn my sinuses out with acid. It's really that bad sometimes. Now that is offensive.

😳I hope I don't get a stinky partner ......when I start out in this job...... I have a nose of a dog my kids used to tell me. I can smell when we get a mouse in the house. I have even smelt a snake in the house before didn't know at the time, till I went on the hunt for it. But I hate when sometimes when I start to smell things and no one else does yet ! And dirty body odor and clothes is one of them.😒😩

I would make sure to keep a bottle of Imodium on your truck. During my training phase at Prime a couple months back, my trainer and I were running ahead of schedule and stopped at the Petro truck stop in Toledo for showers and dinner and a nice night sleep. When early AM came around, it was my shift so I got up before the sun rose and had some breakfast from the restaurant, coffee, sweet tea and water.

Then about 45 mins after I took off, a message comes across the qualcomm. "The Flying J, Loves and Petro truck stops in Toledo have been shut down due to high bacteria levels in the city's water supply. Avoid those truck stops." About the time I hit Illinois, the bowels of hell opened up. And for the next couple of days, all the way across 80 and 84 to Portland I must have hit most of the rest areas (even when I was in the bunk trying to sleep) and had to have an emergency pitch on a rural off ramp in Wyoming.

I also got an upset stomach from some particularly greasy breakfast buffet at the Petro truck stop in El Paso. I barely made it to the T/A truck stop in Las Cruces before it hit. Imodium was my friend the rest of the way to California. I think there are some faster acting OTC meds for this than Imodium. But nevertheless have a supply of those handy.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Thanks for the tip on Immodium. Methinks it's probably a good idea to pack an assortment of things for headaches and little ailments of that nature.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
