Hi, all. I finally got my CDL. It feels great. Just wanted to encourage anyone who thinks its tough. Yes it is, but if I made it, you can make it too. Good luck to all of you.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Thank you Starcar. My plan is to wait while I make a few extra bucks for all the stuff I will be needing. Also, I would like to make sure I get in while in deep winter so that I can benefit from training with an experienced trucker during winter time....around January. Will keep posting, God willing!!

I remember my first winter.....but I'd been driving in state for a long time, in all kinds of weather...so it wasn't to bad. But you will get scared, you will see things you thought didn't exist...and you will learn to respect the slick roads, and your truck. Keep us posted on your progress...

Starcar, scared I will be, definitely. But I came from a tropical country and learned to deal with the cold and snow. So am hoping that after training with an experienced trainer, it wont be soooo bad. One good thing is that I will have moved from the narrow and traffic full roads of NJ/NY to the mid-west where the roads are wider and traffic less. Will keep you posted.
