Fl is tough for freight scheduling in the first place. one thing to check into regarding distance to terminals!!! what is the company policies?? alot of them say if you live within 50 miles you are forced to park at the terminal during hometime??? means you have to leave a personnel vehicle there or make other arrangements to get home and back to work. in my case the company doesn't allow you to take a trailer home, which limits your options coming off hometime. i have had to have some adult conversations about that issue. i pay for the fuel, not them and I am not driving 60-100 miles out of my way to drop an empty trailer at the terminal at their whim. when it comes to needing maintance it can be handy though. just a few thoughts from some of my experiences.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I may be totally off base here cause i ha e no experience. My thoughts are this. My team partner lives in gainsville by i75 the terminal is in ocala. I live by i75 on the other side of ocala near the walmart distribution center and swift does alot of walmart. I am picturing some 34 hour restarts at home. Drop him off in gainsville, shoot to distribution center then home.

Ricky, sorry to say in our experience, they will not keep you near your home terminal. My man is 50 miles from his home terminal and it took a week of "gentle reminders" to the planners that after 4 weeks on the road, he NEEDED to come back for a medical appointment. So that isn't going to happen.

Being a former swift employee, that's more or less true. I lived 249 miles from swifts terminal in Lathrop, CA ( 1 mile short of there 250 rule) and was pretty much told I couldn't take the truck home because I was technically under the 250 limit... Really lame
As stated, FL isn't good with freight. Not a lot coming out. Now swift prefers it's drivers to stay out for 3+ weeks.. They don't care much for those drivers who want 10-12 days out.. at least that was my experience.

Okay. Talked to schnieder today and asked about taking truck home. They said they do not have a position available for teams in florida that would allow us to take a truck home. They would expect us to park in jacksonville or orlando which is way to far away. So Schneider is out. Looks like swift is it.

Through my research my buddy and i have schneider on the top of our list with swift as second and 3 others following. We have orientation dates for 4 of them already. My thoughts are at putting swift to the top of the list because we each live 50 miles from ocala fl where swift has a terminal. My question is does a close terminal have any legitimate benefits. Also if you have any input between the 2 company's i would greatly appreciate it.
