The one weather condition I am not driving in. 16 years of experience does not tell me how to drive in high winds. That much experience tells me NOT to drive in that type of wind. Check out the wind speed on the pic. Yea it's sucking in Wyoming today. Was supposed to be in Ogden UT tonight by 9pm. Not happening now. If they want the freight at 9pm tonight they will really want it when I get there.

For those that may not know 50 mph wind is enough to over turn a truck grossing 80k. I only have 36k in the box. That put my gross about 70k or so with a 53' trailer.

wind conditions that truck drivers shouldn't drive in

Probably a silly question but am still curious. Yes, you can check weather forecasts in advance and prepare yourself. What if you are caught UNEXPECTEDLY in that windy condition which was not on the forecast and you are in the middle of nowhere? Does stopping on the roadside help the truck stay on all 18?

Slowing down can help you keep it under control, but I would not recommend stopping on the roadside unless you absolutely have to. My biggest fear would be setting on the roadside and the wind blowing another truck into me as he was trying to go buy.

The truck can still be blown over if your setting still, so in high winds when ever possible park directly into or away from the wind. Crosswinds is the biggest fear. If you must park crosswind try to park in a jack knifed position to give it a little more stability.

I grew up in Wyoming and lived in Utah. I know what windy is, stay safe out there all of you that are in the storm areas.

Anyone curious about what app I used it's call RadarNow from that app store or Google play. It's a pretty basic dopplar radar app and long pressing on the screen will tell ya current weather conditions in the area that you pressed on. It goes by the reporting stations in the area like airports and sat stations so it's local to those areas.

I am unconcerned about most weather but I must always know what the wind speed is.

If you notice with the wind speed it also has the wind gust speed also which is almost as or more important than the actual wind speed. It's the gust that will hit you unexpectedly and flip ya over.
