As Woody stated, finding an LTL company will be your best bet for home time, if that's you're primary concern. It was one of my primary criteria when choosing a company out of trucking school. Truckload companies will typically not pay as well as an LTL company, even if you find one that gets you home on a weekly basis. Besides LTL companies, you may have other local opportunities. You will just have to research what is in your area. Again, if home time is your most important criteria for choosing a company, then most truckload companies will not satisfy that for you, especially considering what they pay.
Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.
