Absolutely designed and set up for failure. I can ace bretts high road cdl combination. I can stare at a fricken wall while my girlfriend asks me the fricken questions out of the dmv book itself!!! And ace them. Why in the hell would they ever design a test like that? The questions and the answers are messed up or something. Ive never been type of guy to fail tests. I have my motorcyle endorsement also with advanced driver courses. Im no dummy. That bs test is designed to fail. They want you to fail so badly they made it this way!!!!!!!!!!! I passed cdl general and airbrakes. I failed Combination two days in a row now. Its 20 questions and you can only miss 4. You better bet your ass out of 20 questions they choose the most difficult worded tongue twisting bs they can at you so you can go home as a failure!!!!! A disgruntled future trucker. Im not a idiot. Bretts high road program was like kindergarten compared to fricken calculus math. I wish i could sneek a camera so you could see how asinine the questions and answers were.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

So brett you should make your combination test much more difficult and diverse.

If I am halted and I already passed cdl and air brakes I can no longer focus on the study guide for combination or any endorsements. I have to answer a ton of questions I already know to get back into the combination study guide. Why is this? Or is it just my android?

Well ya posted that rwo hours ago. So I truly hope you've calmed down enough for some good natured ribbing.

If Bretts test were that easy you wouldn't be halted smile.gif

Now to be serious. Your right that the bmv tests are worded to trip you up. You must read every little detail. A freind of mine passed hazmat the first try and had to go 3 times i think for doubles.

As far as the halt, i think tne only other way to get around it is to reset your scores. But tnen you lose your previous work.

Woody

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

Bmv:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Yeah, I'm not used to failing tests either, and that DMV combo test kicked my butt too. Had to retake it. Just chill and take your time with it.

For starters, Woody makes an excellent point. If you know the materials then why are you being halted so often? It shows you're only 7% of the way through the course and you've been halted 7 times. There's one question you've missed four times. There's another you've missed twice. How do you keep missing the same questions over and over again when it's an open book test and we give you the answer right within the question itself?

I also checked to see if you reset your scores but I don't see any backup scores in our system so I don't believe you've reset your scores. That means you've only completed 7% of the program and you've only done 4 out of the 7 pages in the Combination Vehicle section alone.

So I don't know what you're doing but it appears you're not using our High Road Training Program properly before testing. Here's how our program breaks down:

To Get Your CDL Permit:

  • Rules & Regulations
  • Driving Safely
  • Transporting Cargo Safely
  • Air Brakes
  • Combination Vehicles
  • Pre-Trip Inspection
  • Driving Exam

To get your CDL endorsements which are optional but we highly recommend you get:

  • Transporting Passengers
  • Doubles And Triples
  • Tankers
  • Hazardous Materials

And two sections we've built ourselves with info you'll need for everyday life on the road but the manual doesn't really cover it:

  • Logbook
  • Weight & Balance

Don't rush through a tiny percentage of the program, miss a bunch of questions over and over again, and then wonder why you can't pass the tests. Go through our system and complete all of the sections for the permit before taking the written test for your permit. If you want your endorsements, take all of the sections of our program for the endorsements before taking the written exam for them.

Our program is highly effective and we've had over 8,000 students use it. In fact, the largest distributor of building materials in the country is putting 100% of their drivers through it and even wanted a custom version built to match their branding. So the effectiveness of our program is beyond debate. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to build it so that you'll pass the tests even without using it properly.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Logbook:

A written or electronic record of a driver's duty status which must be maintained at all times. The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.

Combination Vehicle:

A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I just passed combo at dmv. Now off to school I go. I was a bit harsh and just a little frustrated. I had studied two different materials before using the high road. Regardless this site has a ton of information for new truckers to get started on there trucking career. I didnt understand the halting and missing the same question because I was flying through and trying to gather as much material as I could right before the test.

The DMV tests are challenging. I actually failed my Tanker and Doubles/Triples endorsements once each. You definitely have to slow down and read carefully. PA's tests are all computerized with the option to skip. I discovered that if I used the skip button, the chances were good I'd never see it again. Works a lot better than taking a guess at a poorly worded question. With that knowledge gained, I passed the HazMat test on the first try and, yes, I skipped several questions.

I also used the skip feature. I actually passed my cdl general and airbrakes first try which I thought I had failed or barely passed. It took me 3 times to pass combo. Those questions are hard in their designed format. The answers are also tricky. Those tests are definitely challenging. No stupid easy answers or guesses on those like the old driver license questions used to be.
