LOL.... Boy are there some young'uns here... or I am getting old..... Or are people not curious enough to do a quick google search? The Davis Bacon Act applies to many jobs. Heck a flag person in Montana gets nearly $19 per hour base pay because of the Davis-Bacon Act.
Davis Bacon Act on Wikipedia Here is a history lesson on Davis-Bacon and you should know this stuff so you do not get short changed. 2 drivers from another company got short changed on a previous project because of their greedy boss. They were paid $12 per hour instead of $29 for that job and they worked several weeks on that one.
Basically if you work on a federally funded public works project then you should be paid Davis Bacon tier wages. I did some checking and the pay for this job with the zone pay and the benefits is $38+ per hour.

Well I'm 46 years old and have never heard of Davis Bacon. Of course I've been at the same Non-union job for 24 years so I don't know much about unions other than they are bad unless you are in one.
It has nothing to do with unions. I don't belong to a union and never have been. Now data from union jobs is used in determining the base wage with the Davis Bacon Act but that is the extent of it.
It was designed to keep wages up instead of migrant workers moving in and keeping or lowering wages in a local area.
Well how would you do that as a company driver who is working all the time? Or even as an owner op?

As an owner op you need to knock on doors. There are plenty of them that pull belly or side dumps for these road projects. As a company driver you will have to work for a company that either pulls those types of trailers or a company that does road construction. Someone that pulls a box will not get into this without changing jobs.
The one draw back is that it can be seasonal. Up here all road projects will be shut down in 2 weeks, Nov 15th for the year.

For those that are looking for local type jobs, it does not have to be pulling a box.
I pull flats, steps and RGNs most of the time moving either equipment or over sized concrete boxes. But on occasion I will have to put on another hat. In the last 4 months I have driven dump trucks for 3 weekends that payed Davis Bacon wages. I have also pulled a belly dump as I did all this week and will be next week also for Davis bacon wages. They are not full time runs but when you get a full week at $30+ per hour to run a dump truck or belly dump, it sure makes up for the repetition.
Now if you get on with a road crew, this type of pay will come more often as a lot of road jobs will require that you be paid Davis Bacon wages. What happens is that you get the prevailing wage for that area you are working and if you do not get full benefits then you get the cash for that also. The job I am on currently is over $35 per hour. For a 60 hour week, that is over $2100 gross.
Just be aware that most of the dump type jobs are in the $12-$18 range but when you hit the special projects, that is where you will make a little extra. Now be aware, I have been on only 2 of these jobs this year, one for 6 days and now another one for at least 12 days. Not very often but it is a good kick in the wallet when you get it.
