Does the DOT Physical need to be completed prior to taking the written (Permit) test? Or can you take the test and then complete the physical as long as it is documented prior to taking the driving test?
Thanks!
I took my permits 1st, then the day I started school they did a drug screen, then the physical a week later, they never asked a medical card taking the driving exams....but you need it for a driving job, and it must be register with the DMV

I am on my 3rd DOT physical in a month ! lol ... everyone wants their own doctor to see you. The company you end up with will be your last physical for a while. You must Self-Certify in your home state each time you get a new physical. It's easy to Google search for the DOT site for your state. Always carry the DOT med card with you ( my "card" is just a full page copy of a "short" form )

In CA, the DMV requires both your physical short and long form to allow you to take the permit tests.

Indeed. Same in Tennessee. I should have clarified that the DMV will need all documents. Just carry the short / card for driving.

While we're on the subject, does anyone have a good method of preserving the short form? I carry mine with my permit at school and it's already becoming worn. The permit I'm not worried about, since it will be replaced with my CDL when I pass, but the card is going to need to last two years. Is lamination allowed?
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

I was just at the Arizona DMV this morning and the guy told me to make a shrinked copy of it and laminate it (he said, use clear contact, shelf paper, it's cheaper).
