I was in Florida for the weekend & today I just got my first ever ticket in life (I'm 22). I got a speeding ticket for doing 95 in a 70 on the Interstate. Was I really doing 95? NO! Will I drive 12 hours back to Orlando Fl just to fight this ticket? NO. Honest to God truth I was doing 80 but damn sure not 95 because I had on my cruise control on. Long story short I am just trying to see if anyone think a company out there will hire me?

25 mph over is reckless driving for sure. But by your question I assume your not driving yet. While it will not rule companies out completely most companies will have a major issue with it. Your chances are not completely shot but it will not be a complete easy ride either. Some companies will out right refuse you, not because of the type of ticket it is, but a combination of the type of ticket and how recent the ticket it. And because of the ticket you will have to apply at more companies than normal.

Most companies allow 1 to 2 moving violation ticket before they say no but, regardless weather or not you did it the ticket shows what you are being charged with and that far above the limit will cause you issues. Reckless driving is one of the more serious offences a driver can be charged with and since trucking, especially now, is hyper safety aware. It won't be impossible to find a job but it's going to be alot hard than if you had not gotten it.

Not sure how many points that ticket will put on your license but it will be more than a few.

I would hiring a lawyer that specializes in traffic citations and they will do all the work for you and they can usally get those tickets reduced to something more resonable.

I got a ticket for doing an illegal u turn which was 3 points a few weeks ago and 4 days later received a letter that because I have a clean record they would reduce it to a 1 point defective headlamp charge If I plead guilty and pay the fine by the due date, since that was Florida and your ticket more serious not sure if they will do that for you though. From the research I did because of my careless driving ticket from over 3 years ago most of the big companies don't care if you flawless record otherwise, just apply and be up front about it. I told Werner about how recent that ticket and they did tell me I had to have it cleared before they could hire me though...

Yes Theron, you are still able to get a job as a truck driver. Like Guy said, it does not matter what speed you say you were doing, but, what you were charged with. You will pay the ticket and by doing so, admit guilt. Welcome to the adult world where actions have consequences.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Welcome to the adult world where actions have consequences.

Some of us young guys have been living in the "adult world" for awhile now. :)

And it doesn't matter if you can swear that you were going 80 and not 95. I once had gotten a seatbelt violation when I was wearing my seatbelt. Nothing you can do and making excuses doesn't help either. In my case I had nothing because the cop said he saw me and his word was higher than mine.

Try to get it reduced and drive slow. You better get used to 62mph because chances are that's the maximum you'll be able to drive in a truck. So slow down right now and get yourself accustomed to a slower pace. Life isn't a race.

I wasn`t referring to his age Daniel, well, not directly. I was referring to how he did not take responsibility for his driving. I know you know that there are some drivers out here that, no matter their age, should not be in a truck and I would rather they stay away from the industry. Don`t mis-understand me. I am all for helping everyone who wants to drive a truck for a living, but, I will call them out to protect myself and everyone else on the roads.

Theron, I agree with Ricky. Get an attorney that specializes in traffic citations and fight it. You need to get that speed to be less than 15 mph over the limit, otherwise it's considered reckless driving. Most major companies won't hire anyone with a reckless driving ticket in the past 3 years. It's not that your chances of getting into trucking are completely shot, but it will be a night and day difference depending upon whether or not you can get that ticket reduced.

If you're serious about a career in trucking then you need to be serious about protecting that license. That includes both your driving and your willingness to do whatever it takes to keep points off your driving record.
