You won't get any truck time in those four days, but it's highly unlikely that you will roll out with an instructor on Thursday. You might get assigned and instructor on Thursday or Friday, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be rolling out on those days. What usually happens is you will meet your instructor and then it will be a couple days after that before you go out because they either have a student that is waiting to test out or they are a L/O and they are waiting for a load that they like.

Your first pad time will be on Friday and you will almost certainly be in Springfield still to attend that. On top of that, you and your instructor have to spend four hours together driving his truck in Springfield before you are allowed to hit the road. This can be spent on the pad, or city driving, or whatever. This is to make sure you guys are a good fit.

In my class, I don't think anyone actually left on Thursday and only a few left Friday. Here on the following Tuesday, there's only a small handful of us left. I'm one of the few people left here but that's because I sought out my own instructor and his situation was that he wasn't going to be ready to go until Wednesday. Rather than seeking out someone else who could've gotten me out of here faster, I decided to wait for this guy because I think it will be a great fit.

That's another thing. You don't have to agree to go with the first instructor who calls you. Make sure it's a good fit. You won't hurt their feelings, it's just business. If you have to spend an extra two or three days in Springfield to find someone who's teaching style and personality are cohesive with you, well, it's probably worth it.

Lol, do you get some truck time in those four days? Because it sounds like its four days and then you are expected to start your 30,000 miles with the trainer right after.

Hey Josh, there are several Primers on this site (what do you call a Prime truck driver? A Primer . . . what do you call their significant other?? A Primate!!) who can answer ALL of your questions . . .ask 'em and ask 'em fast . . . the best thing you can do is complete the "High Road Trucker" tutorial, go to your home state DMV and get your permit with all the endorsements you can . . . don't worry about HazMat yet . . . there isn't any driving per say in the first week as it is "orientation" . . . way too much going on to worry about your CDL-A permit so take the time at home to get this done before you go to Springfield . . . lots of camaraderie among the new students and everyone is encouraging so don't worry about anything but absorbing the info . . . make sure you get the "Pre-trip" stuff down to a gnat's butt (Daniel on this site has a great tutorial on that subject - he is also the resident Prime expert who can and will answer ALL of your questions - take advantage of all the resources you can) . . . you will be tested at all times during the first week - not formally but you are being observed to see if you are on time (ALWAYS BE ON TIME OR EARLY) and what your attitude is . . . make sure you fell good about your PSD trainer and don't jump at the first one if it doesn't feel right . . . pay attention duing the PSD training and if you come back and test out first try there is a bonus for you & your trainer ($250 for you and $750 for the trainer - called a Trifecta) . . . main thing is BE HUMBLE and don't cop an attitude . . . you will be a guest in someone else's truck and you can learn from that person no matter how big an a**hole they are . . . and have fun and don't worry . . . every driver pout here had to do what you are going to do . . .
