Out of the blue I re-appear.. lol

Well its been one hell of a ride. Last 3 months flew by. Thanksgiving marked my 3 months with GTI. I've got nothing truly bad to say about the company. There have been a few times that made me want to leave but I pushed through.

First month was really hard. Getting use to policies, being basically stuck in Chicago area. (Bounced between KC, St. Louis , Indianapolis , Chicago .) I was averaging 2000mi a week (roughly 250mi a day).. wasn't doing to bad but could get more, but traffic and all those tolls in Chicago ate up time and money..

I was transferred sooner then most drivers to a new DM. (Driver manager for you rookies ) GTI starts you out with a training DM. Generally after 6 weeks they put you with anot her DM , I was with mine withing 3-4 weeks.

Right around my 2nd month I requested to move to US fleet and do all 48. Once that happened I started getting 2400-2800mi . Right around the middle of the 2nd month got a pay raise.. every penny helps. Lol. It wasn't much but it bumped my to .35.

3rd month everything started to fall in place. Until thanksgiving. I had finally hit my worst week... 1400mi.. ouch. Had a load that wold have put me at 2500 but the shipper scheduled the load before it was even ready to be loaded on the trailer. Sat for good 3 hrs before someone figured out I should not be sitting. The next load didn't work out either as the receiver closed 2 min before I arrived.. That's trucking for ya.

AND now hereven i am, waiting to drop this 1500mi load at midnight putting me at 2300 for my week with 3 days left in pay period.

My 3 months have been fun. Seen a lot, more snow then I was expecting , freezing Temps, met Daniel B in North Platte, NB by coincidence, (not sure how he drives bein so short, guess the LA truck helps. Lol just Daniel) trucks rollover.... that's one of the biggest things I've seen the most of is rollovers.... super truckers going to fast around a corner . .. very sad.

Well that's it for me and my adventure.

Happy holidays to everyone, and welcome new members just coming to us.

-David

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Great hearing from ya David! Glad things are going pretty well for ya. Freight is really up and down as we work through the holiday season and into the new year but show up for all of your appointments on time and keep pushing dispatch for more miles.

Glad you hung in there during the times you were considering quitting the company. Everyone goes through that from time to time, especially in the beginning of their career. It was wise to stick it out. Get a little more time under your belt where you're at and keep talking around to drivers. Maybe you'll stay where you're at, maybe you'll try something else. But keep that safety record clean and you'll be able to go anywhere you like.

Well my goal is a good 6-12months here, hate starting back out as a rookie. No one will consider my 1 yr local as experience and the 1 yr with Swift was to far back, so Im back at the bottom... lol Once I get the 6-12 Im thinking of goin to Maverick for Flattbed.

But, Life is good, and I've got $$ in my pocket. Bit more than I had back at Salvation Army. Its nice pulling in a weekly check that equals 2 weeks there. Very satisfying.
