We've had a lot of people come through here and wind up with CRST. The most important thing to know about CRST is that they run teams almost exclusively. So you're going to have to team up with someone during your time there. Most people hate running team, but some people really like it, especially early on in their career when it's nice to have someone there to help you through difficult circumstances when they arise. The only way to know if you'll like teaming or not is to try it out unfortunately.
The nice thing with CRST is that their requirements after training are the shortest in the industry. You only have to work for them for 8 months to fulfill the training agreement.
So the bad news is that you'd have to run team. The good news is that you only have to stick around for 8 months and then you can move on if you find it isn't for you.
Thank u i dont mind the team thing i think at first it would be a good thing the only thing that has me thinking if they are right for me a buddy of mine told me he had a few friends that went to work for them and as new drivers u would end up stuck at trucks stops for a few days waiting for loads not making any money as most loads go to drivers that have been there longer
I am driving for them right now Brian. So far, they have kept us pretty busy. Teams is tough, living with someone in an area the size of a walk in closet, but if you find someone who is willing to work hard, you can get by a lot of the problems by talking it out. The one thing I know about CRST is, if you mess around and are late with loads, you drop to the bottom of the list. One of the guys we went to school with contacted me and was complaining his truck was only getting 2500 miles a week. Same week, we got 6000 miles. My guess is he and his co driver have been late too many times.
Bottom line about CRST, they are going to use you for your contract period with lower than average pay, long hours, and tough schedules. On the bright side, you get your school paid for, and some good experience. The pay does get better, going to 31 cents a mile after 6 months. One thing I am glad about with the team environment is two heads are often better than one in a tough situation. Both my co driver and I have different strengths and abilities in what we have learned, and we can work together to help out in tough spots. That being said, after I do a year with CRST, I plan to go solo. In the meantime, I'm glad I have the benifit of my co drivers experience along with mine to help me get through this year.
