I would have been on the phone a long time ago to the Fleet Operations Manager or what ever the title is for the Dispatcher's Supervisor. This situation is beyond the pale IMHO.
I agree!!
I would have to agree here with what the other haves said. It is likely that the bean counters didn't know how long you would spend on said bus rides, or that even possibly that given the option they assumed you would want to go home. We all know what happens when we assume..... right.... I would also say get in touch with your dispatch and see of they can get you some of that cab money back.
I know you want to be home with the family for christmas, it is where I would most likely want to be given your situation. I think fate has given you that silver lining here. As I am pretty sure you are on your way via the dog. I would say talk with your wife and let Christmas come a little early this year. You have been given the sure thing of being there at least one day take advantage of that. Let the kids open one or even all the presents. I am sure they will not mind at all.. lol.
Take em as you will but just my thoughts and hopefully they will help spin a positive out of this sotuation.
Ooooohhh!! One other thought I forgot. Think of all the brownie points you are earning now. I would bet dollars to doughnuts once you talk to your dispatcher about the whole situation. He will probably say to himself. Man I am going to owe this guy big.

I didn't look at it that way. I'm gonna have to do that! Thanks man!
I`m on the fence with this one. I guess if I explained the situation and they came through with some common sense, I would be cool with it. It seems they just do not know, otherwise, they would have taken the more cost (and driver) friendly option.

I explained to him in detail how long the bus ride and cab ride was more than once. My dispatcher doesn't want me up there chasing that truck but it seems like someone over him is calling the shots. Based off of what he texts me and he says on the phone two completely different tones

Ah, that says a lot. The head bean counter seems to be in control of this situation.
I want to reemphasize what Old School said - do not let this sour you on the company. There isn't an experienced driver in America that hasn't been through this kind of thing many times. Like I mentioned a couple of days ago I've been on my share of wild goose chases, long bus rides, and piles of money lost due to no fault of my own - simply a victim of the decision-making of others.
This will all be over soon enough. You'll be in your own truck cruising down the highways enjoying life and making money.
This is why we tell people to prepare for the worst and expect to feel like quitting your job or getting out of trucking altogether many times in those first 6-12 months. Everyone experiences it. We all have slightly different challenges to navigate, but nobody gets trucking experience without suffering through extremely tough circumstances numerous times over. I had mentioned I waited 8 days in a motel room in Albuquerque for a truck to be repaired, only to find out it wasn't going to be repaired so I had to take a bus all the way to Oklahoma City to get another truck from our terminal. That's life in the trucking biz....it happens to everyone.
Hang in there! Better times are just around the bend - you'll see!
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
First, I am stealing that joke!
Second, enjoy your time with your family!
Thirdly, as a veteran driver tells me often, things in life happen for a reason. Some choose to believe it, some don't. But, perhaps you avoided a deadly accident, or were there for your family at a time they needed you, because you were where you were when you were.
Enjoy your time with your family!

Dispatcher:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
