I have the big mushroom antenna. Its mounted outside on my mirror. I have a cascadia evolutio . I loose signal ALL THE TIME. Where is yours mounted and how's your signal??

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I've had both XM and Sirious in two of my cars over the years. When your not in an area with terrestrial repeaters, your antenna needs a clear view of the sky, mostly to the south. I've found that tall buildings even tall trees immediately to your south can cause reception drop outs. Heck with my Honda Civic, I had brief signal dropouts while passing big rigs! embarrassed.gif Make sure your antenna is mounted high enough on the truck so that the signal wont be blocked by your own rig. If I recall correctly, it needs something like a 45 degree view of the southern horizon/hemisphere for best results.

Did a quick search, looks like things have changed. Maybe new satellites or something, not sure but now they are saying to point antennas to the north. Here is a link to the SXM site with all the details.

I tried putting this in as a link, but TT kept telling me it's not a valid address? I copied it directly from the nav bar in Google Chrome.

Anyway, this info is mainly intended for home installs, but I think it helps to understand a bit how the system works.

I had a few hours to my next stop so what I did was mount the antenna on my Qualcomm antenna mount. Its the highest, clearest point on my truc . So far its working good.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

I have the little low profile square antenna. It is mounted on top of my driver side mirror and works great. The only time I lose reception is in a tunnel and occasionally during mountain driving.
