CDL Manual says a lot of things that don't happen in the real world lol. But you won't be shifting ALL the time, so the times you are not then theoretically you should have both hands on the wheel. Remember, this is not your car, it's an 80,000 pound 6 story building you are driving down the road.

As my trainer told me..."An 80,000 pound bomb" going down the road. Nine and three is the 10 and two of truck driving.

Always keep two hands on the wheel unless shifting. Is what it means. This is critical in your driving exam so make sure you make it a habit.

I just have a quick question and anybody can chime in.Why is it that the CDL manual tells you to hold the steering with both hands like(9-3)but that seem impossible if you're driving a manual i have been watching how to shift gears on tractor trailers on youtube and no one seem to hold the steering with BOTH HANDS just felt like sharing this with everyone.By the way just got my orientation letter today from Prime Inc and I'm soo ready to start .goodnight everybody and don't forget to pray for the victims in Oklahoma.
