Dispatcher: So, you've hunted in Tennessee?

Me: Yup. Been down there a couple of times.

Dispatcher: Did you fly down?

Me: No, we drove.

Dispatcher: Oh, cool. You know your way around down there then?

Me: Yeah, I guess so.

Dispatcher: Great! Go to McCook (NE), load a center pivot and deliver it to Memphis by Friday morning.

Me: D'Oh!!!!!

Oh, well... what other job lets you wake up in Douglas, WY, hauling casing to a drilling rig and go to sleep in Wakeeney, KS hauling sprinklers to Tennessee???? :-)

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

That's right!

Now pick all of the places in the country you love to go and keep telling dispatch how well you know your way around those places. Personally I'd be the master of Las Vegas, New Orleans, and all cities in Florida and Texas! rofl-3.gif

What's a "center pivot"????

When you fly over the plains states, you look out the window and see the farmland is circles instead of squares. That is center pivot irrigation. It's like a huge self propeled sprinkler that rolls around.

I heard a story about a pilot that came on the intercom and told the passengers that those circles were made by the farmer putting a stake in the field and tying a long rope to the team of plow horses. As they walked, the rope wrapped around the stake and they circled in to the center. Bogus!

Born in Kansas
