I was curious if any of you could tell me how much of the country do you actually get to see as a professional driver? I realize I may be driving all across the country, but will I have time to get out and go for a hike or see more closely all the places I drive through. Or will my schedule require me take the views I can get through the window as I drive by?

You'll have some weeks your running like crazy and won't have time for anything. But there are also slower weeks that you will have some opportunity to do that stuff. A month or so ago I had a day off and I rented a car and explored the city I was in. Some drivers carry their bikes with them.

You'll be amazed at the amount of things you will see just looking out your windows as you travel. Since you'll be driving a large truck you will be limited as to where you can take it but believe me you will see plenty. Here's an example from a trip I made in November 2013 to Petaluma, California. beautiful trucking picture of san francisco from Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

My first look at the city of San Francisco, taken from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

Oops. Hit submit before I was through. Anyways, had a day off in Ontario, California and rented a car and drove to Beverly Hills and Hollywood. But just taking in the views riding down the road can be awe inspiring. So many beautiful places in this country.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

If you don't have to go home for your "home" time, many companies will let you take your reset wherever your freight has you.

Thank you for your quick replies! I'm glad to hear I may have a day here and there to go out and about. Love the photo, Weatherman!
