Both are great company's with many options.. When I was researching companies I liked both as well. I finally chose prime as my 1st option and am happy I did. I believe all company training have a certain amount of team hours at prime it is 40000. Which equates to approximately 8 weeks. After that you are solo. Also yes there is detention pay and also the best paying drivers pay during training. I think both are great but prime edged out knight for me
(Disclosure) "I drive for Prime and am going to take the PSD Training Course in a few weeks" I gotta say Prime is a good way to start out in this business for 2 main reasons....1) they offer about longest hands on training time with excellent starting pay as a rookie driver in a lightweight truck. They have 3 types of freight...Reefer, Flatbed and Tanker and pay detention based on agreements with their customers etc etc. They also offer a 5 cent a mile bonus for dedicated Northeast Drivers so in a LW Truck you could start at .48 cents a mile before fuel bonus...Not too bad

Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Thank you for the info, it's greatly appreciated. Just curious but is that 40,000 miles with prime during training combined miles with your trainer? Also does prime have cdl classes that start every week. Last thing is do you think you can at least make $40,000.00 your first year gross being a company driver and do they push leasing a truck hard on you which I'm not interested in? Any info would be great, thanks

Yes during your TNT phase all the miles that the truck runs count towards your upgrade..I think you could make $40,000 net 1st year if you got finished up with both PSD and TNT and were upgraded by May. Prime wont push lease however your TNT trainer might, I know mine did and was kind of a Jerk when I decided for the 100th time I was still going to start as a Company Driver...Lease could be a good thing once you know all the risks and business & taxes plus have several months Capitol Reserves. Prime has New Classes every week

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

I live in Lockport new York, about 25 min near niagara falls. I really like Prime Inc overall but concerned about the team driving with a trainer. With Knight Transportation you don't have to team drive. Also do you get detention pay with prime, I believe you do with knight and they want you to get 2500 miles a week which is great. What I really like about prime is the pay and it doesn't matter if I'm out at a month's time. Last thing is do you sit a lot to get loaded and unloaded with prime in there reefer division. First time on this forum and any advice would be great, thanks eric
