Now most companies will let you verify employment even if it's off the books. You can normally get a notarized letter signed by someone who can verify your status. Were you given that option?
Yes I was told that. However I was working on an unofficial "circuit" of work. Multiple locations/bosses. Way to many to try to track down and most would have been reluctant to put their name on paper.
Ah I see. Well one way or another you'll get it done and you'll be trucking before long.

Hey all, Since joining the site a year ago I've been learning patience. I got my permit and tried to get into company sponsored school. Found out you had to have 12 months of verifiable employment out of the last 18 months. I had been working under the table so I couldn't provide that. Instead of whining and giving up I went out and got an on the books job. 6 months to go and I can apply again. If you truly want to do this, think long term. Even if you are an old guy like me. (52 Years). Keep posting, I love to read them.
