If I had a week where I was stuck in the Northeast or I was given two or three short runs in a week I'd just give a simple reminder to my dispatcher and say, "I've been running some short runs here lately. You know I'll run anything ya give me, but tell em they need to throw a dog a bone once in a while :-)"
By "them" I was referring to the load planners that actually assign the loads at a lot of big carriers........
Dispatchers have so many drivers to take care of and so much going on that sometimes they're not aware of your circumstances like you might think. They may have assigned you the loads without looking too closely and didn't even realize you were getting several short ones in a row or that you haven't been out of the Northeast in a week. So don't assume they're doing anything purposely. There's a very good chance a friendly reminder will be well received and just what was needed to get you a sweet gravy run.
My recruiter sent me an email checkin on me (her commission i'm sure. Lol) i explained some of the problems and also stated in the email that i like the system and my job but felt there were a few issues. Well next message i get is "i forwarded your email to terminal manager" oh god i thought, this is just great. Lol. My dm called me this morning and we had a really good talk and i told him my main problem was with 1 particular person on night shift. And low and behold his phone call followed me ariving at reciever 2 hours early and finding out that this same person had my appointment at 13:00 when actual appointment is at 1am. This person is useless and now he is seeing it first hand. Yesterday i did a 17 mile run, bobtailed 9 miles to pick up a trailer that another driver abandoned in a recievers driveway. I had to dock and get unloaded. Had 5 hours on my 14 and ran out. Had to sleep on side of road. Then this with wrong appointment time. I have taken all very gracefully with out on word. I am taking your advice. Hopefully it pays off. Lol
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

You weren't out of line at all until ''I have taken these crappy runs''. That sort of message really isn't going to help you. Save your complaints for situations like the previous ones you mentioned, when you really do have something to complain about. There will probably be plenty of them.

As is usually the case when following a post by Old School or Daniel there isn't much left to add. The only thing I will throw out to go along with this paragraph is that I thanked my dispatcher for EVERY load I was given. In fact I still do even though in my current set up dispatch often times has little to no control over the load I end up with.
Just keep in mind every crappy load is not a crappy load (no pun intended) it is an opportunity to show your DM you are different than most drivers. And believe it or not somewhere there is a driver with no load wishing he had yours
