"Patrick" was one of those people that said things in here that nobody really believed as they were quite unbelievable that someone could be so dumb. Claimed to be 60 and married, but profile said 25 an. Has absolutely no interest in marriage. the experienced drivers here are nice enough to help those of us considering a career. Or those of us already in it with advice then for someone to come in here and essentially waste their time was very disrespectful IMO.

As a Catholic who believes strongly in the sanctity of life, I don't think we should kill this thread. I'm OK with letting it come to it's own natural end though.

I think that's what Daniel meant - not to delete it, but let it settle down like sediment with the rest, into the 600+ pages in the General Category.
Gah. Ok. Sorry! I was responding to a recent post. Didn't even see that THAT person was necroposting.

Not that I really care about this, but just to share a little information on this subject. There is now an Atheist "Church" that was started in England in 2013 and has rising appeal with many who were brought up religious and liked the community of it, just not the subject of it. If you are at all curious, there are many branches starting around the US. You can read about it here. Sorry to stir up this thread again, but I figured as an Atheist who saw Sunday Assembly and thought,"Why?" and actually did some research on it, others who see this thread might actually like to learn about it. Morgon Spurlock actually did a special on it. Link.
Speaking as an atheist, I'll drop my two cents here.
First, understand there is a difference between atheist and antitheist. Many people get the terms confused. One is a person who just doesn't believe in a god or higher power. The other is a person actively working to abolish religion. I'm definitely not the latter. I am married to an extremely devout Christian and I respect his beliefs and he respects mine. I see how, when practiced peacefully, religion can really help people and bring fulfillment to their lives. I support that 100%, and as long as it's not forced onto me, I'm ok with religion in general.
As for support groups or meetings and such, one of the great things about being an atheist is that you don't need any of that. I mean, what are we going to discuss? Anger at established or sought-after theocracies? What atheism means to us? How to unite quantum mechanics and general relativity into one unified scientific theory? Seems a bit silly, really. Generally, atheists are comfortable with themselves and do not need a specific meeting of like-minded people to reinforce their ideas.
As for "no atheists in foxholes", let me explain something. If you don't believe in a god, when the proverbial crap hits the fan, you don't suddenly start praying. I've been in a several near-death experiences, one concerning an emergency plane landing. I didn't suddenly start asking something I can't see for help. I just trusted what I knew of weather and their effects on airplanes, physics, and the pilots' training and collective experience. That's it. And for all the atheists I know personally, this is the same across the board. Granted, agnostics might entertain the idea of prayer during a bad time, or someone having a change of heart about their beliefs (or lack thereof). But someone who actually believes there is no god will not suddenly start praying to one. It's an absurd prospect to posit that just because you believe a certain way that someone else will automatically respond in an identical way in a similar situation.
I don't mean to turn this into a theological debate, but it's highly unfair to make a blanket statement about the belief structure of the general population. While I'm sure people with a religious belief will far outnumber those of us who don't have one, there will be at least ONE atheist in a truck driver's seat: me.
Well said Miss Miyoshi
