How about more detail, Mikki? How does the mirror bug you?
How about more detail, Mikki? How does the mirror bug you?
Depending on what I am trying do I am either craning up to see or crunching down to see. Does that help? Just can't find a sweet spot to complete a maneuver

just stop the truck and move the mirror so you can see. slow is control, just take your time and make sure you can see, the second you just think you are ok is when you can hit something.
I had trouble picking things up in the right spot mirror so what I have done to help is to sit in the cab and focus on my mirrors. Do this without moving anywhere and identify as many things as you can see. Look at each West Coast mirror and each spot and fender mirror for a few minutes. After a little while I was much more comfortable with all of them when in motion.
Hope this helps.
Learn to love to move that mirror. You'll find yourself in some gnarly blindside backing situations where you'll need to move that around as you back into your spot.

Probably can't do this for your test, but after I was OTR awhile I found myself using my Power mirror Option as needed, when I would lose sight while backing in, I would power move the mirrors as needed to back in. of course GOAL, but I sure liked it when it was 30 below last year in the oil fields... :)
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Right mirror?? What's that? Lol
The best thing to do is stop and adjust if you need. May also help to move seat a little too. In school they taught us to use both but not to focus on one or the other to long, trainer taught me to use just the left. I do use the right as I like seeing both sides of the trailer.
I had problems with the right

Dang cell phone buttons! The first attempt self-posted!
I has problems with the right mirror, too. It's like, 6 feet farther away, and seems smaller. Others have caught this from your description: "craning and crunching". Those aren't problems, that's what you sometimes have to do to see what you need to see.
For me, the main use of the right flat mirror is to look down the right side of the trailer if I need to make sure I'm "aimed" right.
(Here's a hint: of your target, say a "money cone"? is only on the right, before getting into the truck, stand outside, line yourself up with that side of the box, and look in the distance for a larger object that is close to being lined up, too - a light pole, a tree, a friend. Look for that target to help you.
The convex mirror makes things oh-so-small. It's only good for the big picture and to make sure you're not going to crash into anything. And half the time you only see the side of the trailer anyway.
It ain't you, Mikki. The right side mirror is just not doing what you want it to do. These other comments are telling you to just love what you got.
