These are the actual DOT Rule 49 CFR Part 40 Section 40.197 regs, when it comes to diluted (suspect) specimens.
Since your school is going to have you operating equipment subject to these rules on public roadways - these are the "defining regs" for that issue.
They will probably make you just "drop again". Blood tests and hair testing is not "DOT Approved Testing" - only urine - though you may get pulled for a blood test immediately following a "DOT Reportable Accident", and most definitely a urine test in that case.
I'd call the doc back and get RIGHT BACK IN for a re-test - and skip the tangerine and dump this time.

Tangerines will do it every time.

Thank you Rick for looking that up , it shines light on the subject. Going to either call my school to be in the morning and or just show up since they have a hard time answering the phone. This was the last thing I expected , having a problem with the drug test. Wish they did a more serious test. It just kind of riled me the way the doctor implied it , I asked " what does that mean it was diluted" and he asked " what company I worked for " sorta like he is use to people cheating the test. He asked "do you have problems with your kidneys". He must go through people cheating allot and was real direct like allot of people from India are. LOL . Hate to have him for a father in law. He said it was up to my school as to what to do. Thanks for looking that up.

Between that and the handful of almonds I ate from the school to the clinic. LOL
I had a diluted test, once. If you drink a lot of water just before the test, it could come up diluted.
To be on the safe side before you take a pee test you should always eat a couple bananas the morning of the test to put the color back in your pee... If your pee is to clear they send it out for more testing
Technically - the "dip test" is NOT a "DOT Legal" test. All samples are supposed to be "split" (into two cups) and sent to a LAB for testing. The split test (2nd cup) is if the first test is disputed or inconclusive. Although most "company tests" in their clinics, will do a dip test and then send it out if it looks suspicious. ALL DOT TESTS are "supposed to be done" in a lab, on a mass spec. I test regularly for the Longshoremans Union - to stay qualified to operate heavy equipment (TT, Forklifts, Container Handlers), and their guy uses the dip test. Their regs are apparently a little less strict than DOT.
Many drug users will attempt to "flush" by drinking copious amounts of water, hoping to "dilute" the specimen. Your average "dip test" will not detect the dilution. Urine is tested in the lab for "specific gravity" and levels of creatinine. If the creatinine is low - the sample is suspect for dilution. This can happen if you're flushing - or if you simply drink a lot of water (in general). Eating bananas is not going to change your creatinine level - since it is really function of how long the sample has been sitting in your bladder.
The first thing they do when you drop - is check the TEMPERATURE of your drop, and check for sediments. "Stored urine" will usually be significantly lower than normal body temp - and solids in the sample will tend to separate and settle to the bottom. You can place the urine in a "warm place" and try to keep it at body temp, and shake the sample after you give it to mix the solids back up. I'm not telling people how to beat a test - just letting you know how some people TRY.
"Diluted Positive" samples are ALWAYS TREATED as positives. Diluted negatives call for a re-test - and usually IMMEDIATELY. Labs also test for adulterants - Golden Seal, etc., as well as "freeze dried artificial pee". Yes - you can buy artificial pee, though one usually sees this more in Probation/Parole testing, where drug users will do anything to drop clean - except ACTUALLY GETTING CLEAN.
The best way to have an "unquestionable test" - is to HOLD YOUR PEE.
If you're pulled in on a "random", which is supposed to be done to the entire pool of a company's drivers - you have ZERO NOTICE. They'll GPS your truck, call or QC you and give you the location of the nearest testing center - and you go drop. Drivers may NEVER get hit for a random, or may get hit multiple times a year - it's "supposed to be random" - lists are usually generated by computer.
Jeff - yes, Docs are used to seeing people try and beat the test - so any "suspicious samples" raise a red flag. Don't take it personally.
I peed in a baggie for my son a couple of weeks ago for a drug test for a computer store he was applying to. Had he been applying for a "safety sensitive position", I would not have done so. While I would prefer him to be "clean", I also wanted him to get a FULL TIME JOB.

Yeah, I could only imagine , only I just can not imagine people feeling that relaxed or brave to try to beat a DOT knowing the severe penalties involved.
Thanks for the DOT info, I got a hold of my school around noon calling since eight this morning and a person who was filling in said it was no problem. She told me to go to the clinic and they would be expecting me. Got there , they were not expecting me. Took a while for everyone to communicate but I did not even have to pay again. This time I drank no water, I did have six cups of coffee in the morning(three decaf) and when she said go I did not touch a drop of water and spit all saliva. I even ate some salty fries LOL(I don't normally eat fast food). By the time I got in there after all the confusion I barely made the minimum amount and could tell I was starting to dehydrate by the color. I should of just went for my three mile run(jog short of a crawl) before except did not have the time.
I will know next time not to drink Herbal tea all night and not to drink coffee and water before testing. Oh , not to mention eating fruit on the run with raw almonds. LOL

Doc called and said my urine was diluted. I went to the clinic and already had to take a dump(ate a tangerine) and then drank water so I could go when I needed. WTF! Has anybody else had this problem before? I have to get a hold of the school to see what they want done. I hope this does not set me back. Maybe they will let me take blood test? Has anyone ever been told their urine is diluted? And no I dont smoke that zeta crap!
