Knives are typically about CONCEALMENT.
Usually - a knife in a sheath on a belt, in plain view - is legal in 95% of states - as long as it is in PLAIN VIEW.
Another example would be - in Florida - a knife that has a "pocket clip", where the clip is visible - is NOT considered a "concealed weapon". Opinions may vary from cop to cop - but the law is pretty plain about this.
